Motherboard Compatibility Question
Hi all,
I'm planning on putting this motherboard in my gaming rig Newegg.com - ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890GX HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard and noticed that the onboard graphics are ATI. I also noticed that it's Crossfire compatible. I just bought this nVidia card Newegg.com - EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1563-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card and am wondering if there will be compatibility issues between the card and mobo and if I'll be able to run another video card in SLI with it on this specific mobo. If not, or if you have any better suggestions on a motherboard, please let me know. Thanks! |

The video card is compatible, but you cannot run SLI on an AMD chipset. If you want to run SLI, you will need to go with Intel, or get an AMD board with a Nvidia chipset.

Awesome, that's what I thought but wanted to double check. Maybe this is an excuse to get the sandy bridge now, hahaha.

That being said, any recommendations on an intel motherboard to run with either an i5 2400 or 2500? I don't know if I want the 2500k because I dont really know how much overclocking I'll be doing or if it's even worth it.

Asus P8P67 Pro or higher. If you are definitely going to be running SLI and want both slots running at x16, get the WS Revolution.

I think I'm just going to stick with my current setup. Thinking about changing my current motherboard (listed above) and CPU Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX seems a little more daunting and costly than I want. I don't really think I'll come across the necessity to run the video cards in SLI, but again I don't really know how much of a difference it makes in gaming. I know you've said (glc) on a few occasions that you'd rather just run 1 good card than 2 lower quality ones and I think mine is pretty good. And I think I can live without sandy bridge for now, I don't know how much OC'ing the CPU will do for my rig and I'm really unsure how OC'ing works anyway so, unless I get an overwhelming response to redo my mobo/CPU setup I think I'll just leave it.

PS Any recommendations on an AMD board with a nvidia chipset?
Thinking of this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131636 Though I notice this has no south bridge chipset (don't know what that means to be honest) and this only has SATA 3gb/s. I don't know how big of a deal breaker these things are but any help would be appreciated. Last edited by DeezySwift; 05-01-2011 at 07:03 PM. |

No recommendations whatsoever. Nvidia chipsets are not particularly stable.
