Cheap LAN Box

Hi guys... I want to build a LAN box for about 500 dollars (if not a little less). Does not have to be super duper fast.. but good enough to play games with enjoyable visuals and acceptable framerates. Obviously I won't need a massive hard drive (~250GB). COD (all series), Killing Floor, Counter Strike: Source, Starcraft 2. BTW, I want to keep the box smaller then a mid tower (think shuttle PC case type box, or micro tower).

Throw me some viable suggestions and builds! Thank you.

after thought here... my main core rig at home is an AMD am3 based system. i would like to be able to pass down parts to my lan box as i upgrade my core rig. that way i am not buying 2 processors everytime i go to upgrade (and perhaps motherboards here and there). everything would be able to transfer down to the lan rig, except the processor and i would like to keep that the same as well. so i made a revised rig, gutting parts from glc's and jdeb's suggestions. would this work ok?

And the cases I saw and heard, the handles were "chintzy" so I picked a different one...
