Exhale's Build Thread (dramatic! no not really...)
Hey guys, so I'm ready to start buying! The way I want to do this is have a list of ideal parts to crosscheck with the various daily newegg deals until about mid-June when I will give in and buy everything else on the list regardless of discount or not.
My needs: Great gaming computer that offers me the best performance for the price. I will be using 1 monitor, and am NOT interested in overclocking (I may be shooting myself in my future foot but as of right now I'm just not that PC confident). Additional notes: After reading many posts on this forum and doing some research on my own, what I am most confused about is the motherboard and the case, though I do know that one dictates what the other CANNOT be, more or less. I would like to spend as little money as possible on the motherboard without sacrificing quality. So in other words, select for me one of the most reliable brands with just the right amount of features that suit my needs please. And then suggest a case that is relatively quiet and has great cooling, I don't care much for the aesthetics. With all that said, the one component I have already purchased is an i5-2400 processor Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-2400 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52400 I am very much considering using the GTX 570 as my video card. So, what other components should I be using? Thanks a ton guys in advance, this forum truly is a gem in the desert Edit: I realize the market is constantly changing, and so the "ideal list" can of course be updated, both by me purchasing products and others suggesting I replace a component I have yet to buy with a better one

Those who are real PC-confident don't overclock. So you're not shooting yourself anywhere.

The -AR series EVGA cards are the ones to look at - they have a lifetime warranty.
Get a SATA 6.0 version of the Black drive. Good ram. |

Regarding the case, I noticed its made of plastic. How else can I prevent static discharges from ruining my components while building? The only method I've heard of is by touching the metal case. I guess having another metal object to touch nearby would do the trick? Or what

Touch the PSU while it's plugged in (but not on).
