building a pc for the first time

hey all, ive been computing for years and have run yet another machine to its death, but this time i have decided to build a new machine on my own. im long overdue for having this experience. im looking to build:
mid to high performance pc
capable of running windows 7 and/or ubuntu linux
reliability and stability is KEY
not planning on throwing a whole lot at it game wise
intel based
budget of $800-$900
not planning on OC'ing
im building just the tower, not looking for monitor/mouse/keyboard or speakers.

so anyway, as this is my first build i need to know if the parts that I have picked out are not only compatible but work well together.

here is my wishlist from newegg:
https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/M...px?ID=17355866

and for the lazy ones, or in case the wishlist isnt working here are the parts i have picked

HDD:
Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda Green ST1500DL003 1.5TB 5900 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Optical Drive A:
Newegg.com - ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - CD / DVD Burners

Optical Drive B:
Newegg.com - LITE-ON Black 4X BD-ROM 8X DVD-ROM 32X CD-ROM SATA Internal 4X Blu-ray Reader Model iHOS104-06 - Blu-Ray Drives

Case:
Newegg.com - NZXT Crafted Series Vulcan Black Steel / Plastic Gaming mATX Computer Case

Mobo:
Newegg.com - ASUS P8H67-M LX (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel H67 SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Processor:
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-2500 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52500

RAM:
Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL

So there is my list.
is that everything i need?
is everything going to work well together?
and what size powerplant do I need to get? Ive been having trouble figuring that out.
oh and im planning on using the integrated sound card and the integrated LAN as long as thats not a terrible idea.

thanks in advance!

lol i completely forgot to post up the video card. whoops!

here is the one i had picked out:
Newegg.com - ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

but im thinking for the purpose im building it for that the one you suggested would be better

thanks for all your suggestions btw im checking them out now.

EDIT:
looks like im probably going to be going with mostly things that you suggested. the corsair RAM doesnt appear to be compatible with the p8p67 mobo though. so i will find an alt for that. otherwise thanks so much for your help! ill be starting the build sometime in the next month or so and ill try to keep updates posted.

No, please do not use G.skill ram. Use Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, or A-Data. If you are not going to be overclocking, use 1333 speed. 1.5 volt ram preferred.

The GTX460 does perform a bit better than the 5770. If you prefer Nvidia, no reason not to get it.

hows this ram look mate?
Newegg.com - Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model CT2KIT51264BA1339

also, hyptothetically speaking, could i buy this case and install my own parts into it? this is my favorite case of all time. its beautiful. i doubt it would work but if it would i would DEFINITELY go for it.
DELL XPS 700 710 COMPUTER CASE BAREBONE ALUMINUM | eBay

i actually prefer the black one with the red front panels but id be more than happy to go with this version.

thanks again for all your help

Good ram.

No, that's a BTX form factor case. See how the port block and slots are reversed?

finally back with an update on the build. i had some unforeseen expenses that kept me from getting started but i now have the case, power supply, and CD/DVD drive. the next batch of parts (mobo, cpu, and ram) should be arriving in a few days. right now all i have left to order is my video card, HDD, and blu-ray drive. Problem is, the video card i was going to order is out of stock. i was planning on ordering pretty soon because im without a computer on my on and im getting tired of using my phone and borrowed laptops so unless its back in stock by the time i order im gonna have to pick an alternative:

Newegg.com - ASUS EAH6670/DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

is that gonna work?

my other question is that once ive gotten all these parts installed, and everything is done, is it just as simple as putting in installing the OS or is there some kind of testing and refining process i need to go through?

sorry if that seems like a dumb question....
but id rather ask a dumb question and get a good answer than not ask and kill my computer and waste money and time.

Hey mate, i just built my first computer last month... its a great feeling when everything works and works very well

i dont have any expert advice but what i did was.....

research basic computer building, learn about your specific parts, anden,
cpu on mobo, cpu cooler, ram, case prep, mobo in case, power/usb/fan cables, video card.

start up and go to the BIOS, sus out all the options, make sure HDD and OPT drives are there and connected to the correct ports.

to install OS, in bios, set the first boot drive to CD/DVD ROM drive, insert OS then save bios and exit!... its all point and shoot from there. (dont forget drivers)

good luck & happy building
