Hold out till Black Friday 2011?

Hello everyone. I had a quick question about buying components/a pc. I wanted to originally buy a PC this summer but reconsidered waiting until black friday. Are the prices lowered enough to warrant waiting? I think I wouldn't mind waiting if the savings ended up being 200-300.

Some good bargains can be had during Black Friday, but bargains can be had here and there all year. The problem I have seen with Black Friday ads is that of course only select products are on there. I am not sure you can put together a great machine from them. You can buy SOME things, but I wouldn't wait to build a system for all of that time. Maybe you might find something that is worth upgrading then or if you wait that long can get some things then, but I wouldn't depend on saving the money you want to save. However, my experience is more limited. Others might have other opinions.

Never buy anything based on discounts or rebates. Set a budget, select your components, make sure they're good quality, and once you have a list THEN see if any reputable vendors are having those components for sale. If they are, good: you saved; if they ain't, you're still within budget.

There is nothing wrong with planning ahead. I've been putting my build together for a month now, watching for deals, hoping some key components drop in price. I've already saved about $75 just waiting for the parts I wanted to have some weekly special on Newegg. All I have left is the CPU/GPU and HDD. But I'm in no rush at the moment.

As said before, set your budget, and if you can wait..then wait. But do not settle on bargains for bargains sake.

The problem with that approach is the parts sit there getting more outdated by the day, you waste warranty time on them just sitting there and you go past the return period to Newegg if they are defective.

The only time I wait for deals is when I am doing a upgrade on a component like a graphics card or what not. I am currently running a card that will play most games that I want, but I have my eye on a 570. I have the money for it, but I know that come the holiday season there will be big deals, plus the new 600 series is due out at roughly the same time. I am in no huge need for it so I wait and watch, if a big sale comes on the card I want I will get it, if not then I will wait for the new hardware to drop the price of the card I want.

Granted, but I'm not recommending waiting until November either, or rather, purchase your parts over 6 months. My build is going together over the course of 4-6 weeks. I might be risking the Newegg return over this period, but I still have my 3+ yrs of warranty on them, depending on each item.

That might pay off, but you will possibly kick yourself if a component fails just out of warranty and would've been within warranty had you not done it that way.

A lot of good points were made, and I for one, am of the opinion that if you have a time frame and a budget you can put together a nice system for a minimum amount.

But...
You are not going to save any where near that much by looking for deals. Max savings is maybe $80 o $100 bucks. I know cuz I did it. The system in my sig ran me about $500 bucks about two years ago. Although; I did upgrade the PSU and cpu cooler just recently.

I read this thread with a lot of interest. Does the "Black Friday" Phenomenon apply to other electronic products as well as to PCs?

I ask because I am very tempted to get one of these:

But wonder if it worth waiting? Cheers.Products - LUMIX Digital Cameras - Overview - LUMIX G Micro System Cameras - Panasonic UK & Ireland

They don't have Black Friday in the UK, and what does a digital camera have to do with building a PC?

By the way, you are violating our anti-spam rules. Every single one of your posts is linking to a UK Panasonic site. Can you give me a good reason why I should allow you to keep posting?

Normally it might be wise to wait until the end of the year when many retailers cut their prices, but this year is different. With the price of gasoline on the rise, it's causing just about everything we buy to rise in price. Besides the gasoline issue, and due to many other issues, some financial experts predict we are soon to enter a period of extreme inflation. For all these reasons, it might be wise to buy sooner rather than later. ---pete---

I'm sorry if I broke the rules. I was genuinely interested in what I read, but this is your shout. I'll unregister.

I am in the same boat deciding if I should wait for a new PC until the Black Friday deals this year. So far I think I will hold out b/c the savings will be substantial. I've been checking Black Friday - Black Friday 2011 Official Site - Black Friday .com on a regular basis to see expected deals and prices for BF his year.
