I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the Hardware forum,
CPU Stock Cooler Vs Aftermarket Cooler What is better, (aside from voiding the warranty) I have a I7 860, the stock cooler have that kinda cheap feel to it, especially with the 3 strips of pre-applied theramal tape/paste.......and it had me wondering would this be good enough. I also have the hyper 212 plus and I am wondering should I use this instead ![]() It seems as if a lot people use an aftermarket cooler, and squinch at the thought of using a stock cooler. when should an aftermarket cooler be used, It seems that aftermarket coolers produces lower temps than stock coolers. Are stock coolers really good enough without running the risk of heat/temp damage. any horror stories with stock or aftermarket coolers? What do you guys use Stock or Aftermarket? |

Only use an aftermarket cooler if your processor did not come with a cooler, or if you are going to be overclocking.

From what I've been told the stock cooler is fine if you don't want to be overclocking; otherwise you should use a better after-market cooler.
I'm not sure about the thermal paste though. I haven't seen anyone complain about it before and my CPU works perfectly with it. |

Just like a HSF, if the stock thermal compound keeps it cool enough then that's all you need. Don't fall for all the marketing hype.

So the stock with the thermal paste should be good enough, ok I'll use the stock.
Thanks Guys (correction I have the 870 not the 860) |
