Building a pc Newegg Combo
There is a deal on Newegg.com that includes...
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 AMD Motherboard Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3B1K2/4GX Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive LITE-ON CD/DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM Thermaltake V3 Black Edition VL80001W2Z Black SECC / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case All of this is 389.99 USD. Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more! Now to my belief the only thing missing is a graphics card, I was going to get a pc for gaming and decided the 6 cores were to much money and 4 would get the job done. So I wanted this specific AMD 4 core, do you think this would be a good deal if I buy a good graphics card. |

The PSU that comes with that combo is an "OK" unit but wouldn't use it with a strong video card. It would be a bit under powered with a strong card.

Ok I'm probably going to scrap this idea then because I'm going balls out on a graphics card. If I may ask what is wrong with the hard drive? The general question is basically if the power supply could handle a very powerfull card would this PC work well for gaming? Taking the AMD x4 proccess and RAM into consideration.

We prefer Western Digital Black drives for speed and reliability and Corsair TX/HX/AX series power supplies.

Building PC
Alright I'm going to build a PC with the following
X2 Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 Video Card Crossfire Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100312-1GSR Radeon HD 6950 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Quad Core Processor - HDZ955FBGMBOX - Compare Prices and Buy at PriceGrabber CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CMZ4GX3M2A1600C8 Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CMZ4GX3M2A1600C8 I would like a recommendation for the Power Supply case and Motherboard. I plan on overclocking + anything else to make it run faster if its possible. Thanks. |

PSU...
Newegg.com - CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 V2 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply Make sure the CPU fan you choose clears the gigantic heat sinks on your RAM.

Im not exactly sure what you mean, the AMD Processor includes a heatskin/fan. That PSU will run both graphics cards np?

He is talking about the RAM, look at the picture in your link. The heatsinks on top of the RAM are really quite big when stuck onto a motherboard, and that GPU and Heatsink/fan for the CPU are going to be equally as large. So do the measurements of how long/wide each part is, and make sure they won't run into each other when you actually seat them onto the motherboard.
If you are having doubts about that PSU crossfiring your GPU's, you may want to go to a 750w power supply, something like this. Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply Another thing to note, and this is just an opinion, I recommend getting the biggest/best SINGLE GPU instead of crossfire/SLI. Then again, I don't know exactly what you are aiming to get out of this computer. Last edited by Hippo08; 05-12-2011 at 10:20 PM. Reason: Grammar/Spelling |

I was looking around for gaming GPU's and both of these combined do extremely well almost as good as the best single 700 dollar GPU's. I want a good gaming machine still not sure about what motherboard or case to use. As for the fan could you recommend one that will work with this setup? I'm really just starting off on building a PC, but I want to go big for gaming.

Would this work as a motherboard for 2x graphics cards that cross fire
GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H AM3 AMD 890GX HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H AM3 AMD 890GX HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard |

Threads merged - please keep all questions about a build in one thread. Thank you.
We aren't recommending the CX series Corsair PSU's at this time, they are not made by Seasonic like the VX/TX/HX/AX models. If you are going to Crossfire, use only certified PSU's. A Corsair TX650 V2 is certified for two 6950's. Newegg.com - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply I don't recommend the Vengeance ram, if you want Corsair 1600, get the regular XMS3. Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX4GX3M2B1600C9 Cases are really a personal choice - what I like you may hate, and vice versa. I'd prefer Asus, Diamond, or HIS to Sapphire. Sapphire cards are good, but their end-user support is questionable. I may be changing my attitude on this when I see how long a RMA I just did takes to get back. Not a fan of Gigabyte boards, but the price is right on that one for the features and you could do a lot worse. I'd prefer a board that can run both slots at x16 instead of just at x8, but you are talking considerably more money or sacrificing SATA 6.0 and USB 3.0. |

Newegg.com - ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard How would this motherboard do? It runs both the 2.0 x16 slots. I'm going to take your advice on the ram/PSU. After combing all these things together would I have the power/cooling that I need or would you recommend I add something more.
