Not entirely sure of your power needs, but if you don't need it, you can get a Corsair 650 watt PSU for a little cheaper.

Since you're not doing any intense gaming/overclocking I would say Newegg.com - ASUS P8P67 (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard would be the best choice MOBO.

Yeah a Corsair TX650 would be more than enough for a power supply. You might even consider getting something smaller if you're only buying a basic video card. Choose your video card and then pick a power supply that can support it.

Your options for a video card would be:
ATI: Asus, HIS, SAPPHIRE are the best brands
NVIDIA: EVGA would be the best choice.

I'm using the HAF 922 right now and the air flow is incredible. Sometimes I have to toss on a sweater because of the cool breeze that fires out of it.

If your only going to be using 2 monitors then just upgrade to the 2600k processor for the better graphics and use a h67 board. If your just using this as a standard computer and doing some developing also then there is really no need for a discrete graphics card, unless you are talking 3 or 4 monitors.

I am just hoping to put 2 monitors not more than that.

OK...That MOBO doesn't seem to have lot of good reviews on NewEgg..so I picked up another one for comparison

ASUS P8P67 (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

ASRock P67 EXTREME4 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard Tom’s Hardware, recommended MB for Enthusiast PC

I don't seem to be able to pickup the difference between these boards, I guess people were unhappy due to quality of that build?

ASrock has questionable quality/customer service. The recommendations/reviews via newegg should be taken with a grain of salt. The advice from this forum is based upon thousands of builds by people who make a living assembling systems..I put 1000x more stock in their advice then those random, uneducated (some) reviews off of Newegg.

Asus MBs are top quality. I've used nothing by Asus MB in my 4 personal builds and never had issues. Those unfortunate to have issues, Asus works very hard to remedy the situation.

I would get a i7-2600K and one of the new Z68 boards (give them a few days or so to come back into stock):

Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K

Newegg.com - ASUS P8Z68-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard -OR-
Newegg.com - ASUS P8Z68-V LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

You don't need anywhere near that powerful a PSU, even if you do add a video card later (which you probably won't need). However, you did pick an excellent quality unit.

OK..it has been a while..(My wife pushed my PC down the list and bought a Digital SLR..so I had to RIP my PC build for a while )

I started putting together another list and wanted to make sure I get latest tips

And I am actually thinking about Xeon based build rather than i7.

Here is the first cut..I think this can be improved. (I would like to reduce cost..sorry)

Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg

Suggestions are most welcome

Xeon Workstation for a Programmer

(This thread is spinoff from original i7 thread )

I already have a HP Proliant DL740 (I bought used one on ebay last year for $180 bucks)
It runs great..except that it's fan (or don't know if something else) is loud like a Jet engine or turbine.

So I am hoping to sell it off and get a new Xeon build.

It just for my personal use (I thought of getting an i7 but if can get a Xeon for the same price, I would like to stick to Xeon)

So here are my first steps towards it.

I would really appreciate any inputs.

ASUS P8B-X LGA 1155 Intel C202 ATX Intel Xeon E3 Server Motherboard $189

Intel Xeon E3-1270 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz LGA 1155 80W Quad-Core Server Processor BX80623E31270 $339

Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) ECC Unbuffered Server Memory Model KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G $84

EVGA 01G-P3-1431-KR GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card $75

CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 V2 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply $93

COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 Black SECC/ ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $69

Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive 2 X $55

LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM $18

Threads merged.

You need to confirm that exact ram is compatible with that processor on that motherboard.

Not a fan of Seagate drives - I prefer Western Digital Black.

Not a fan of the CX series Corsairs.
