I'd go with an Asus motherboard. You already have a case? OS? HDD?

Were it my build it would be an Asus board and Corsair XMS RAM.
What are the specs for the parts that are not listed?

Asus hasn't released their lower priced Z68 boards yet.

Tnx
Yeah. Have two ATX machines in the house now. Oldest one being gutted. As for the *newer* one (3 1/2 yrs old) -- some parts will be for the one I'm buying, but most pieces reused as the kid's hand-me-down. I do have XP, Vista and Win7 OEM disk's. The hand-me-down will get one of the older o/s's & the new one gets W7 Yep. I dont really need all the upgrades on the higher end mbs and I want Z86 for the SDD Quote:
Other parts? o/s Win7 x64 and the stuff listed in my signature. Last edited by brianosaur; 05-21-2011 at 04:51 PM. |

OK how 'bout now?
Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg Vengeance b/c of height issues? I thought Vengeance was *better* then XMS3? NO OTHER COMPATIBILITY ISSUES, Right? |

Vengeance is fine if you can deal with the crappy heatsinks.

GLC, so it is just a heatsink/height issue thing?
What is the difference between the two xms3 & vengeance lines, or what makes vengeance *better*? The heatsink? Is the chip actually different? Supposedly the Vengeance is a couple of bucks less for a better product. I see the voltage is lower. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...^20-233-147-TS Last edited by brianosaur; 05-22-2011 at 09:02 AM. |

Also, if you ever decide to overclock and use an aftermarket CPU heatsink to do this, your Vengence heat sinks may not clear the CPU cooler. Last edited by David M; 05-22-2011 at 09:51 AM. |

It's both a clearance issue and they are cheap and flimsy.
The biggest advantage to the Vengeance is it's 1.5 volt ram, which is not common in 1600 speed. It's no "better" than XMS3, but that is 1.65 volt. If you aren't going to overclock, I recommend 1.5 volt 1333 ram, and there's plenty of brands out there with that. |
