First time builder - BIOS sometimes hangs, so does windows install
Hello,
I'm stuck and any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've assembled my computer and I can turn it on and fans and lights power up etc. What is happening is that it seems the computer is hanging at different times. The farthest I've been able to get is trying to install Windows 7 and it hangs on "Starting windows". I've had it hang on the "Loading Files" part of windows 7 right before. Also sometime it will hang during the middle of displaying the BIOS asus splash screen. Only half the of the screen will be printed and the lower half of the screen is dark. I have no idea how to get around this or what is causing these hangs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Some things I've noticed : I get the furthest along when I've let the computer sit for a while. Once I reset a few times it freezes sooner and sooner. Motherboard: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO CPU : AMD Phenom 2 X5 965 PSU : Thermaltake 775 toughpower XT RAM : 4G Corsair XMS3 DDR3 HD : WD 500 GB black Video : Radeon HD 5770 I wasn't able to see anything with the radeon video card, so I replaced it with a card that has a VGA port. I've tried going down to 1 stick of RAM and removing both the harddrive and the CD drive but it still keeps on freezing. Any thoughts??? |

Fire it up, enter the bios setup, and monitor the CPU temperature for a while. What readings are you getting?
