Hi, im pretty new to the forums. I've been doing a bit of creeping around without registering or posting to this point to find info but i gave up
so my question is pretty self explanatory. i have a $1200 budget, give or take $100, to build my first gaming / surfing rig. Since this is my first I'm obviously new to building pc's and finding the best parts and deals. My friend offered to help me assemble it but i would rather get many opinions on the hardware situation.I'm looking to go AMD. This PC is strictly going to be used for gaming and surfing. I already have two monitors, mouse, and keyboard. It will also be in the basement of my house and the router is upstairs, i don't know if that would make much of a difference but i was just throwing it out there. I would like it to be reliable and remain easily upgradable. Multi-tasking is a must, i would like to be able to run a game on one screen and be playing music and surfing on the other without lag of any type. now if this isn't possible on a $1200 budget please let me know and ill aim for something more realistic. As anyone else on these forums, I'm just looking for the biggest bang for my buck. Thanks in advance for any help provided

Not trying to tell you not to go AMD, but there is not a chip on the market that games as well as the i5-2500, and the i7-2600.
AnandTech - The Sandy Bridge Review: Intel Core i7-2600K, i5-2500K and Core i3-2100 Tested Now what resolution are you wanting to game at 1920x1080? Knowing that is really the only way we can recommend a card to you without just taking a shot in the dark.

Switch out the CPU and MOBO then for a i7-2600k and an Asus P67 board.

For gaming, save 100 bucks and get an i5-2500K. The improvements with the i7 are barely noticeable.

ok thanks for the advice guys! coincidentally while i was looking at some of the products listed i came across this "barebones" rig that seems to have a lot of the components mentioned by you.
Intel 2nd Gen Core i7 4.6GHZ Overclocked Barebone PC - ASUS P8P67 Pro B3 Motherboard, Intel Core i7-2600K CPU, 8GB DDR3 RAM, Cooler Master HAF 922 Case, 750W PSU, CoolIT ECO-120 Liquid Cooling at TigerDirect.com i think i might take this route and save myself the hassle of buying all the parts and just start with this and add on. Could you take a look at it and tell me what ya think? |

I would never buy a barebones kit - especially from Tiger Direct. Note that they don't disclose the brands of anything except the case and motherboard.

not entirely sure what to decide on to be honest... its a little overwhelming to be honest... this is my first time getting all this stuff together and behind every product theres no set opinion. some say the product works others say it sucks and every time i think i find something good i run into something a little better. im sort of lost to be honest but i think i might just end up getting this.
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more! its a pretty good combo deal from new egg. everything seems pretty good. i dont like the case that much but i could care less as long as it runs well. |
