New gaming rig

Hello. Its been a couple of years since I've done anything to my gaming computer so I think its time for an upgrade.

I don't have the money for a whole new build, so I'm going to carry some of the parts over from the old PC for now. I'm looking to mainly upgrade the motherboard, cpu, graphics card, and RAM.

Here is what I currently have that I plan on transferring over:

Corsair TX 650W PSU
Samsung 500GB HDD
DVD drive. Not sure on the brand atm. Shouldn't be too important?

I have a monitor, mouse, and keyboard. I want to see what the best bang for my buck would be at around 500 dollars, not including these three components. I'm currently using a EVGA Geforce GTX 260 GPU and an Intel Q6600 (2.4ghz) CPU.

Just upgrade you GPU! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130587

Maybe slap some more memory in it ... What OS are you using and how much memory do you have?

What motherboard and ram are you using? The Q6600 can overclock to 3.0 GHz fairly easily.

Sorry about the fact that my post is missing a bunch of specs. Heres some more info.

I am currently using Windows 7 Home Premium x64

I am gaming at 1600x900 at the moment, and also running a second monitor at 1280x1024, which is useful for pretty much everything but gaming. I probably won't have it for long though.

I currently have two OCZ Fatality Edition PC2-6400 DDR2 2GB installed for a total of 4GB.

I'm using a pretty basic Gigabyte motherboard (I used to have an EVGA 780i SLI mobo but two of them died on me). GIGABYTE EP45-UD3L

I'm kind of nervous about buying a 500 dollar GPU. Is it really so much better than the current cards in the 200-300 dollar range?

At that resolution a gtx 460 1 gb would be a good card and a gtx 560 would max out anything current or coming out in the near future.

Never mind I missed how much ram you had, with 4 gb you should be good.

Personally I would upgrade the graphics card and see what that gets you, if your still not happy with the performance then you can start changing cpu, board and ram. I don't know what kind of games you play, but if they are graphics intensive I would buy a gtx 560 and go from there.

You have a good, stable motherboard. I'll take a P45 over a Nvidia board in a heartbeat. Keep what you have, upgrade the video card, and consider overclocking the CPU if you find that your games are becoming CPU-limited.

I expect the June updates to be out any day now.
