new build advice

Hey guys, its been over 7 years since I built my last computer, so I wanted to get your thoughts on a new build, as I’m not too familiar with the new technology. The main use of this build will be gaming, I’d like to play the upcoming Elder Scrolls with the graphics maxed out. I plan on using a 50 inch plasma as a monitor, since I want to use my PS3 on it too. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846
Is there anything I should be aware of using a HDTV instead of a traditional monitor?

Here are the parts:

Newegg.com - Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Newegg.com - ASUS P8P67 WS REVOLUTION LGA 1155 Intel P67 / NVIDIA NF200 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Newegg.com - EVGA 012-P3-1570-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K

Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9

Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Newegg.com - LITE-ON Black 12X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 12X DVD-RAM 8X BD-ROM 8MB Cache SATA 12X Blu-ray Burner with Blu-ray 3D feature IHBS112-29 - Blu-Ray Burners

Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - Operating Systems

do i need this Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler Intel Core i7 compatible ? or this Newegg.com - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - Thermal Compound / Grease

thanks!

If you want the Graphics maxed you need either a 580 or even better a 590 the 570 won't hack it.
You do not need that CPU for gaming, I would drop the CPU down to the i5-2300 and put more money into the Video card!
I also would recommend using an SSD hard drive for your OS and games, that will give you huge performance boost!

i switched the cpu to:
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-2300 Sandy Bridge 2.8GHz (3.1GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52300

one question:

is there a SSD you would recommend for my build?

thank you for the help

As for the cooler you won't need it. That CPU isn't unlocked so you can't do much in terms of overclocking. The stock cooler will be fine.

As for the SSD I would suggest one of the Intel 320 80 GB SATA II SSD's at least. I don't know what your budget is, but you could get a bigger SSD (or even the Intel 520 if you dare!) if you have the cash.

If you build with a Z68 board instead of a P67, you can get a small SSD (40 gigs) and use SSD Caching. The Intel 320 SSD's are made exactly for this use.

I don't really see the need for that WS Revolution board anyway - a $100 cheaper board will do the job just fine.

Khalil and I are going to disagree here - I don't think you need a 590 and that's a LOT of dough to drop on a video card.

I'd get one of the superclocked 570's with the idea of possibly getting a second one for SLI.

the budget is not really a problem, but if you feel the 590 is not worth the price tag, then i obviously i'd like to go with a cheaper option. if i decide to run two cards, should i think about a bigger case than the antec 300? or would that be sufficient?

thank you

I'd go for a bigger case if you want to run 2 cards.

Read the following article:

Best Graphics Cards For The Money: May 2011 : May Updates

I get the impression that running 2 cards may give you better performance than a single card that costs the same when you get into the high end. If you do run 2 cards, make sure you get a certified power supply.

Man that IS a lot for a video card. However, I don't go pricing higher-end cards. I would think that at least with two, should one go bad, you could get by with the other or replace / sell it and get something out of it instead of all your eggs (no pun intended) being in the one card.

@ GLC: thanks, i replaced the hard drive with the one you suggested.

@ Quartet-Man: are you talking about the 590 or 570? i've decided to go with the superclocked 570, with the idea of adding a second one if need be.

thanks for the help

I only suggested the 580 or 590 because the OP indicated he wants to play those games maxed out, the 570 super charged, turbo charged or even nitros boosted is not going to play the games maxed out.

I was just commenting on the price of the 590 by itself and figured two 570s were cheaper and at least didn't put all the eggs in one basket. Either of these two gentlemen know more about these things than I.
