Could someone review my 1,100 gaming rig (budget is 1500) Want Crysis 2 (DirectX 11)
Shopping new egg for a gaming PC, I already have a monitor. My budget is 1500 + and my main goal is gaming. Minimum (Crysis 2 with DirectX 11 support)

For starters, that CPU and Motherboard are not compatible. The motherboard is socket 1155 and the CPU is 1366. Would you like to stick with the i7-950? Or do you want to go to the new Sandy Bridge architecture by Intel? If you don't care we can point you in the right direction.
Don't get Gskill memory, it reviews well however they have been having some compatibility issues as of late. Get this instead - Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 That hard drive is a blue drive, you want a black one. Also, I would recommend getting a 1tb drive because games are getting larger and larger these days. This HDD should be great - Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive Any leftover money should be going to buying you the BEST graphics card available in your budget. It is the core component of the gaming PC. Also, on your OS - make sure to get 64-bit so you can utilize more than 4gb of RAM. Another thing to know would be how many/how big are your monitors and what resolution would you like to game at? And final question, do you plan on overclocking? Get back to us about the CPU/Motherboard and we will help you out! Last edited by Hippo08; 07-11-2011 at 05:48 PM. Reason: Spelling |

Definelty would like to go with the new Sandy Bridge Chip set and corresponding MOBO.
Will definitely make the changes with the ram and HDD. CPU - $299.99 Intel Core i7-2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600 - Dont know if its overkill and If i should use a cheaper chip and focus more on the GFX card? Suggestions for the mobo? My monitor is a 22" Dell 1080p And yes I would like to overclock if it can be safely done. Last edited by plasticslug; 07-11-2011 at 06:08 PM. |

go with a HD6970 card, it will play any game out there. You can back off on the CPU to an i5 or even an i3 for that matter, not gonna give any serious impact on games. K series overclock better if your into that but not needed with any i3 or i5 CPU.

Get a WD Black instead of the blue, it is faster, more durable and has longer warranty.

If you have a $1500 budget you could up the video card to a GTX 580 and be set for the next few years or maybe get a small SSD to make use of the SSD caching feature on the Z68 MOBOs.
Few GPU options: Newegg.com - EVGA SuperClocked 015-P3-1582-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card Newegg.com - ASUS ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD5 GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card Newegg.com - ASUS MATRIX GTX580 P/2DIS/1536MD5 GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card SSD example: Newegg.com - Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) I would have picked an Intel SSD if the 40 or 60 Gb ones were not sold out on newegg. Check out Best SSDs For The Money: May 2011 : May Updates for other options. Maybe toss a Hyper 212+ in there if you're going with an i5-2500k and you'd like to dabble in overclocking. I would use a newegg link but it seems they've up the price to $50. You can find it for $30 easy on another website. (This is all based on glc's awesome recommended build)

Ok looking to go with GLC's build and Sourtops suggestions with the GFX card. It brings me to $1,409.92 Which is perfect.
So this build will laugh at Crysis 2 with the new Direct X11 update? EDIT--- didnt post hyper links but its just a copy and paste from GLC's build plus the GFX card suggested. When you do your DX11 patch for Crysis 2, also get the download which allows you to tweak your graphics settings.

Not only that, you can take those two 6950's and flash them into 6970's.

I think the GTX580 is a great card, had one in my machine for a month but I think Crossfire owns, I just put in 2 x 6970 in my gaming machine last night.
I am playing 2 instances of Rift in maximum mode on 2 27" LCD monitors batteling out Rifts with 50-60 people with zero lag or FPS loss! The GTX580 could not hack it! |

If you are going to go Crossfire or SLI, you will need a stronger PSU.
