First Timer - New Build - Help with power on
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums and need some help with my new build.
I built a new rig and I am having issues with power on. I press power, the system lights go on, the fans start running - including the heatsink - and everything appears to be normal. However, after 30 seconds, the machine turns off. In addition, I never hear a POST beep, nor do I see anything on my monitor. Here are my specs: ASUS x58 SABERTOOTH Motherboard Corsair CX600 Power Supply Intel Core i7-960 WD Hard Drive, 750 Gig Corsair XMS 3 DDR3 2-Gig RAM (3 Sticks) EVGA GEForce 9500 GT Video Card Cooler Master Enforcer Case UPDATE: Appears to be a RAM issue. DRAM light is on each power up. I tried each stick individually in the A-1 slot and none worked. Would this appear to be a compatibility issue, or an installation issue? Thanks. Running on an old Dell monitor, which works with another computer. Please let me know how I should proceed, I want to get this system running! Thanks in advance, looking forward to joining the community here Last edited by LIBOR; 07-18-2011 at 01:01 PM. |

Don't feel bad about asking questions, it is how you learn! Everyone has to start somewhere. We are glad to help, that thread just gives us a baseline of where to start to rule out some of the more common problems and coming to the right conclusion.
I could throw out speculation as to what I think it MIGHT be, but if I am wrong we end up wasting more time/money which is never in the best interest of either of us. We will help you through it! |

Welcome to the world of X58, by the way - it's a very fussy and picky platform. |

The heatsink appears to be on properly. All four pins clicked into the mobo when I originally mounted it. Plus the heatsink is running when I press the power button.
The DRAM light on the mobo lights, indicating the issue might be with RAM. I checked Corsair's website and the RAM sticks are compatible with my mobo. I'm pretty sure I installed them correctly, but its my first time so I'm not sure completely . I'm also not seeing the BIOS setup on the monitor. If RAM wasn't installed correctly, would I see BIOS anyway? Thanks for the help |

No, you won't see anything with a ram problem.

Thanks. I've been searching on other forums and saw other people had issues with RAM on X58 motherboards (as also mentioned above).
I have my ram in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th slots. When I tested each stick individually, I did it in the 2nd slot (the 2nd slot is A-1, which is where the RAM is supposed to go, according to mobo manual). Should I try installing it in the other slots? Or would this be a waste of time? Also, how would MemOK help me solve this? Thanks once again |

Hey everyone,
I'm still having issues with my machine. I've made a short 1 minute video to demonstrate the issue. Thanks. New Build - DRAM LED - YouTube |

Read this sounds like he had the same problem you are having. If GLC mentioned you wont notice when is a RAM problem then it must be your CPU is not properly installed.

As mentioned above, the RAM light is lit on the motherboard, indicating a RAM problem. I replaced the RAM with a new stick which is definitely compatible with my motherboard, and I am having the same problem.
My question is now this: Do you think that this could actually be a processor problem, or is it likely that my motherboard's RAM slots aren't working, and I will need to get a new Mobo? |
