New build won't power up
I just completed my second build this afternoon but when I went to power it up, nothing. It was dead. I've tried breaking it down and rebuilding, same result. I've tried just the MOBO, 1 RAM stick, CPU and CPU fan, nothing. The PSU is good (is my old one and have never had any issues with it), but I also tried it on my old system. I've also tried resetting the CMOS. The power light on the MOBO is lit, so it seems it is getting some juice but it will not turn on.
Any thoughts? Plugged in parts: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Intel Core i5-2500K CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (tried both sticks separately) |

It sounds as if you may have tried this but I am not sure... this is out of the case build
PROBLEMS with a NEW BUILD? Try This!! You had the 8 pin CPU power connector firmly attached? |

Yes, everything is firmly attached and I did check out/try that thread.
This morning I picked up a new MOBO and same result, no power. What I find most odd is the power light on the MOBO is illuminated so it does seem to receiving juice. I can't help but think there is something pretty simple that I am overlooking, but I can't figure this one out. |

power supply I suspect if all is plugged in correctly. Have you tried a different power supply? I know you said it worked but maybe not with that board?

The lite on the motherboard only means that the 5v standby voltage is coming from the PSU.

CONFIRM that you have both the 20+4 and the 4+4 plugged into the board - you cannot use one of the PCI-E connectors instead of the 4+4.

How many Watts can your PSU supply by the way? Well, If it's too weak, then your rig won't start at all.

Just about any power supply can power up a system with just a motherboard, CPU, and one ram stick. It is not a wattage issue.

Picked up a new PSU today and the rig fired right up. Still don't know why my original PSU (600 watt BTW) wouldn't play nice with my new build. Oh well, problem solved.

What is the make and model of your original 600W PSU?
You may have a rail going out on it or supplying bad current. The new Asus boards have premium voltage regulator modules (VRM) that not only protect the motherboard but regulate supply precisely. This is one of the main reasons I use and recommend them. ASUS DIGI+ VRM is a great feature. |
