Questions Video editing pc

hey guys before i get into my questions i would just like to thank all of you and esp Khalil and glc for all the help you have given me in the past helping me get several very nice pcs up and running.

know for my questions What is the most important part of a machine built for video editing? and how much would it cost to put together a nice one?

I am not planning on building one soon so this is more for adding to my knowledge because of questions some of my friends have asked me. If you want to put together a build as an example i would love to see one. thanks for the all the help you guys have given me.

CPU and ram. I'd use an i7-2600K and at least 8gb ram. A midrange video card is sufficient.

I am using a 24 core machine, the i7 is nice for amature/semi-pro video editing and if that is what you are looking for then go for it, it will work well.

If you want a professional video editing machine I can make you a nice list of parts to build one.
Check out my sig and click on my current rigs link, the first machine is my video/audio editing machine, mine is a little over a year old now.

I would be interested in seeing that list. I noticed on your video editing machine you run Ubuntu 64 bit edtion as well win7 do you use Ubuntu for video editing or just win 7?
