and do you think it would be worth an extra $85 for a i7 processor?

what would be the noticeable difference with i7 compared to i5... if any?

Im not aware of any motherboards that are USB 3.0 only. As far as hooking up front USB ports, the ones on the front of the case have a connector that will plug into the motherboard.

For gaming, the $85 for the i7 is a complete waste.

There is a case listed in the recommendation.

All the cables you need will come with the motherboard, etc. The case should come with enough fans - don't buy any more unless you do find the NEED for them after you get it built.

Do not use the old DVD drive if it's not SATA. I wouldn't TOUCH an Ebay hard drive - you need a good, fast drive for your OS and apps, and the WD Black 64mb cache SATA 6.0 drives are the best out there without spending a fortune. The 64mb SSD operating as a cache will make it even faster.

ok, ill stick to the hd on the site thanks again for your help peoples!!

i always wondered why my "good" pc's of ebay werent that good... after comparing, i realized they advertise the good stuff heaps like processor and graphics but the rest of the stuff is just cheap crap....

and just to confirm.... it would be best to install my os on my ssd drive? and should i use the whole 64gb ssd for my c drive?

as that is where all my programs will go, and i dont need to open movies etc any faster then normal so normal files can go on my normal hard drive?

No, the 64gb SSD is used as a cache for the main drive. It's called Intel Smart Response Technology.

ok now i am a little confused..... so when you say it acts as a cache, is this an automatic thing that windows will recognize? all is there a program with the ssd?

and so i will basically have duplicates of regularly used programs and stuff? and how often does it update, i imagine it would automatically keep updated with the actual software on the normal hd?

and does that mean 64gb might be a little excessive considering its mainly a gaming pc?

or have i got no idea what im talking about? lol

well my pc has under 55gb on the c drive.... thats just under a year of crap building up.... so there would be no reason for me to use the smart response technolgy? which means my ssd would work out more benificial for me to install windows directly onto the ssd right???

Theoretically yes, but i'm not 100% sure on reliability of SSDs, my first Corsair F120 died and lost me all my data (had it backed up thankfully) after 2 months, am now on my 2nd and still working pretty well after 4 months, but I have a 150GB velociraptor that I clone my current installation onto every few weeks just in case my SSD decides to die again and I'll be able to continue using my computer without any down time.

When will pc components become cheaper?

Well i want to build a pc before the bf3 beta comes out this month some time... getting a (all in $aus)

EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD Video Card - $360

ASUS P8Z68-V LE Motherboard - $160

Intel Core i5 2500K - $220

Crucial 64GB SATA 6GB/s Solid State Drive - $175

Corsair 750W HX-750 Professional Series ATX Power Supply - $195

the acutal game comes out on the 27th of october (in austrilia)

my pc now could handle the beta enough for me to play, so if the prices of all these things would be down by a total of more then $250 by the 27/10/11.

then i would rather just wait untill the 27th before i worry about building it, and save at least $250

anyones opinions or theories would be much appreciated thanks

For a given processing speed, computers do get cheaper over time. Wait until you have all the money and then buy your components all at once. Chances are excellent your computer will be less expensive in the near future. It is a definite thing your computer will be less expensive in the distant future.

i was hoping for a more specific answer... like what month the new range of cpu's and video cards would be coming out... which i presume would push the current cards prices down?

I gave up on the idea of waiting for a new technology to come out. When you do, it usually comes out later than predicted plus quite often it has bugs or performance issues that need even more time to be resolved.

I would change the ssd to this
Intel 510 120GB SATA III SSD [SSDSC2MH120A2K5] - $299.00 : PC Case Gear

I have not heard good things about the WD Mybook, they run hot, slow and have a rather high failure rate due to heat. You are better off buying the hard drive and enclosure separate.

Vantec NexStar 3.5'' USB 3.0 Enclosure NST-380S3 [NST-380S3-BK] - $59.00 : PC Case Gear

Western Digital Green 3TB WD30EZRX [WD30EZRX] - $179.00 : PC Case Gear

I do not think you need an additional case fan

In my professional opinion, you would be better served with this monitor
ASUS VE248H 24in Widescreen LED Monitor [VE248H] - $215.00 : PC Case Gear

or

ASUS VE247H 23.6in Widescreen LED Monitor [VE247H] - $199.00 : PC Case Gear
