Graphics card burn-out

Hi all! It's been awhile since I posted here, since I built my PC. It has worked almost completely without issue for the last fours years until today. I cracked the case open and the graphics card was burned out. Following are my components:

PSU - FSP Group (Fortron Source) 700W RoHS Quad. SLi Power Supply
DVD - ASUS SATA DVD-ROM Drive
DVD Burner - LITE-ON SATA DVD Burner
Motherboard - ASUS P5B-E
Former Video Card - EVGA GeForce 7600GT 256MB
CPU - Intel Core2 Duo E6600 Conroe
RAM - Corsair ValueSelect 2GB
HDD - Seagate Barracude 7200.10 SATA 16MB Cache

Of course, since my build is four years old, all of the components are now deactivated on Newegg.

Does anyone have a suggestion for replacement of my graphics card? The 7600 gt worked ok for my current purposes. I still play games on occasion, but I think 'Medieval II: Total War' is the most taxing game I play right now (which is itself kinda old).

Price is a concern (would like to stay under $100 if possible), but I want a decent card that will play less graphics intense games and will (obviously) be compatible with my current components.

Thank for any help you may be able to give!!

This should be helpful:

Best Graphics Cards For The Money: September 2011 : Best Graphics Cards For The Money, September Update

Any PCI-E card will be compatible. Personally, I'd probably get a Radeon 5670 - I know for a fact that it plays WoW very well.

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100289VGAL Radeon HD 5670 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Good news/Bad news

The good news is my new graphics card came in the mail today (see above link from glc) and I now have a display!

The bad news is I now have another problem. The computer starts up as normal, but then goes to a screen that says "CMOS Settings Wrong Overclocking failed! Please enter Setup to re-configure your system. Press F1 to run Setup Press F2 to load default values and continue"

However, when I press F1 or F2, nothing happens. It appears that the system isn't receiving the input from my keyboard. However, the keyboard is lit up and I have tried multiple USB slots to no avail. Following is what I have tried so far:

I replaced the mobo battery.
I tried to clear CMOS using the clear CMOS jumper. I am not sure I am doing this right since I cannot find the manual for my mobo anywhere, but I am following instructions for other ASUS mobos that I have found on the internet.
I tried to run setup at the first screen, which has the ASUS P5B-E logo in the background, but again it won't go into setup or BIOS, as if it doesn't accept the input from my keyboard.

Does anyone have a clue what could be happening? Virus possibly?

FYI, this happened once right before I replaced the previous graphics card, but it booted fine after a manual restart. I was going to look into it, but then my graphics card died and I didn't have a display at all...

Try using a PS/2 keyboard.

Directly. A usb to ps/2 adapter will not help.

Forgot to add a bit of (probably important) information. After I installed the new graphics card, I had this problem once. Upon reboot, it started up fine and I was able to install all of the drivers for the graphics card. However, I did notice that my clock was off by about four hours. Both the mouse and keyboard were working when I was installing drivers.

I will try to pick up a cheap ps/2 keyboard tomorrow, as I don't own one right now, and I will let you guys know the outcome. Thanks!!!

Reading back over your posts - you can download the manual for your motherboard from Asus to confirm your cmos clearing procedure.

Working again!

My computer is back up and running! The ps/2 keyboard worked and I got into setup and fixed a few things, namely my 1st boot location, which was set to diskette A for some reason. My USB keyboard is working now too.

Any idea as to why this happened? I ran virus scan and came up clean...

Also, it looks like some of the cylinders projecting from the top of the old card were blown out (I'm not sure what the cylinders are called, but there are 10, in two different sizes, and the larger ones have "F273 1500 6.3V" written on the top). Any idea as to the cause for this? Normal wear and tear? Mobo problems? PSU problems?

Thanks all for the help! This is the most helpful PC site I have ever been on!

Blown capacitors. Common issue.

Your CMOS battery was failing - the clue is the clock discrepancy. USB keyboards don't work on boot unless legacy USB support is enabled in the bios setup, and it probably lost that setting.

Didn't know all that. I just seen it before where a usb keyboard wont work in BIOS.

GLC do knew motherboards that don't have a ps/2 port automatically set legacy USB support?

Yes, but I have seen some older Dells with no PS/2 ports where only ONE of the USB ports is legacy-enabled for a keyboard.
