Hoping for a few second looks on possible rig.

I imagine the vets and experts continually get sick and tired of these threads but I was hoping to get some help as I am new to the whole computer building process. So far, this is what I have

Case- Newegg.com - AZZA Triton 401 Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Motherboard- Newegg.com - ASRock P67 EXTREME4 GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Processor- Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600

RAM- Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B

HDD- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148697

GPU- Newegg.com - ZOTAC ZT-50401-10L GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Drive- Newegg.com - ASUS 24X DVD Burner - Bulk 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS - CD / DVD Burners

PSU- Newegg.com - SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

OS- Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Extra Fan- Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7

I have been researching things for quite a few days. This adds up to a little over $1,000 which is roughly my budget. I was just seeing what everyone thought about it.

My interests are gaming and overall PC power. Any ways for me to save money would be appreciated. I would only like to pay more if its more necessity.

Thankyou. Is it not worth upgrading to i7-2600? Or will I basically be given the same power with the i5 you recommended. I just want to make sure I do not leave myself to dry in 2 or 3 years as my processor may not be powerful enough.

You will never notice the difference between the i5-2500 and i7-2600 unless you run apps that can take advantage of the multithreading. It certainly is not worth the extra 100 bucks. Even the i5-2500 is more than you need for a good gaming machine. The limiting factor in GAMES has always been the video card, not the CPU - this is why you buy the strongest video card your budget can handle.

Nvidia doesn't really have an equivalent card to the Radeon 6950 2gb - the 560Ti is considerably inferior and the 570 is considerably more costly. If you prefer Nvidia, throw a few more bucks in and get a 570 - best brands are EVGA and Asus.

If you are planning on overclocking, then get the i5-2500K and the aftermarket CPU cooler.

For gaming, you will not see a difference in the i5 and i7 performance. I think GLC was dropping here to allow you to afford the Asus MB, which is the perfered MB for quality and stability.

You dont really need the aftermarket CPU cooler unless you plan on over clocking. If that is your plan, then you need the K series processor.

So with the new items listed by glc I will not need to invest in more fans to cool the system? My worries is I am very tight on money so I want to make sure I do not fry any parts. I really appreciate the help.

Also, I will not be overclocking.

You will be fine with the stock cooling. If you can spend a bit more, this case is an excellent budget case built with cooling specifically in mind:

Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 Black SECC/ ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

By the way, I was dropping for you to be able to afford a better video card, not the motherboard - the Asus is actually cheaper than the Asrock. I also saved you 90 bucks with OEM software. The hard drive costs more, but it's a more reliable drive.

What about trying an AMD Phenom II X6? I read somewhere they have a better value than the i5. Any thoughts?

Considering multitasking is not a big issue with me should I even go lower to AMD Phenom II X2 565?

An AMD Phenom II X2 565 is the close equivalent to an Intel Core 2 Duo E8300 according to Tom's Hardware.

Dollar for dollar the AMD's are roughly equivalent on a performance to price ratio to the lower end Sandy Bridge's now. If you want to go lower end CPU then there is not much difference at all...its comes down to which brand you prefer. If you want to go super cheap then the AMD's are the less expensive choice....but I don't think you want to go there with a gaming computer and a $1000 budget.

I like the idea of a 2500 or a 2500K if you want to overclock for another 10 bucks.
