Question Video Editing Build Help

Hey guys I am wanting to a build a computer that I would mainly use for video editing and capture. I only have about $600 and I need to buy the software and the capture card.

I was hoping to use this software: Newegg.com - SONY Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11

and I want to use a capture card that records via HDMI like this one: Newegg.com - AVerMedia AVerTV HD DVR MTVHDDVRR PCI-Express x1 Interface

is there any way I could build a computer at or around $600 that handles this. I could be able to upgrade certain parts later if needed.

Thanks,
Jace

$100 for the card, $70 for the software, $100 for Windows - that only leaves you $330 for the computer - that ain't happening, especially with today's hard drive prices. Sorry.

For AMD:

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-880GMA-USB3 AM3+ AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX

It's two bucks more, but it gets you a MB with 6gb/s compatability for the hdd and USB 3.0 support. It also supports AM3+ cpu's and hybrid crossfire technology for future upgrades.

The cpu with a 6mb L3 cache is on par with intel's i3 for encoding.

Also worth noting is the SB850 South Bridge. You could spend a little less money and go for this cpu and try unlocking more cores:
Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Desktop Processor - C3 Revision HDZ555WFGMBOX

The disadvantages are:
1. You would have to verify ACC is on the MB. The SB850 supports ACC but it's not listed in the MB's features.
2. Not all cpu's will unlock, it's a crap shoot. You roll the dice and hope you get lucky.

If you can wait till spring when hard drive prices should be returning to normal, you will get a lot more for your money.

Couple of things you may want to take note of:

1.I don't think the cpu you selected will perform at its maximum on that board. The board doesn't show to feature 'turbo boost". Meaning it cant unleash 3.8ghz. Maybe one of the AMD system builders can verify this.

2.That particular processor hasn't had a lot of reviews, Newegg reviews give it a thumbs up, but the few tech reviews I have read say its nothing to write home about. Most reviews on the Zambezi are on the 8150. From what I've read the 4100 doesn't even compare to half the processing power of the 8150. My understanding is that not only is it clocked down from the 8150 but its cache is limited also. Apparently it's priced that way for a reason.

The OP's budget is limiting us. He turned a corner on the thread when he went with the Bulldozer cpu.

All in all the Sandy Bridge is the way to go (Quick Sync / HT, and upgrade path), the higher budget enables him to move up the CPU to an i5 or i7 .

The Bulldozer is way different technology and really has no business being in this thread in my opinion. If we were talking 3D rendering on a budget then I would understand. I do not want to get into it because it will make me sound like I am bashing AMD Bulldozer. Unfortunately, the Bulldozer is way ahead of it's time and the majority of software used (OP's intended use) will not utilize it's technology.

Alright if I were to do an intel build what would you reccomend because when I look at intel CPUs on newegg I have no idea which one to choose because there are so many and I am not experienced enough to tell the difference.

You'll want one of the LGA 1155 CPU's called "Sandy Bridge". GLC made a recommendation using one of these CPUs earlier in the thread.
