Suggestions on a new build

Hello and thank you for reading my thread I am building a new pc and need suggestions on compatability and on certain parts. First off I am a casual gamer, wow mostly but am looking to extend into Fps like mw3 and battlefield etc. So my question am I building a rig to "hardcore" for my needs or just right. (sorry for no links i'm on my iPod touch since I got rid of my old rig.)

CPU-AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black edition 3.3ghz, 3.7 turbo socket Am3 six core desktop proccessor. (or 1090t if I don't get 1100t on sale.)
Motherboard-Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 AM3+990x sata 6gb/s USB 3.0 atx amd motherboard
Ram- g skill ripjaw series 8gig 2x4 gig 240 pin DDR3 SDram DDR3 1600 (pc3 12800) desktop memory
Video card- Sapphire dirt 3edition radeon HD 6950 2gig ddr5 Dl-dvi/sl-dvi-d/HDMI/DP PCI express Graphics card
is that to much for a player like myself?
If not is it compatable and what type of power supply will it need so that it runs fine even if on all day. I suppose how many max watts for it do i need well I was thinking 850W but I'm no expert far from it. Also which type of hard drive I don't know what the diff is of a hdd and sdd or whatever there abrieviations are. Thank you for reading. (ps trying to be less than 1200 but Keep in mind I am getting monitor, case, and windows 7.)

Stay away from Ripjaws - stick with Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, or A-Data ram.

A system with a 6950 only needs a 500 watt PSU. Stick with a Corsair TX or Antec Earthwatts, I'd get a 650.

Hard drives are VERY EXPENSIVE right now. I'd look for a 500 gb Western Digital Black SATA 6.0.

Any reason you're going for a six core processor?

This is a steal at $104

Noted stay away from g skill, getting KingstonX hyperblu instead, and thanks for the power suggestion I really had no clue on that. The reason for the six core is I more or less knew what motherboard to get with it and it's on sale too for 169 and it seems better my logic being more is better.( I actually was considering an octo core.) I would not know what motherboard to get with that quad core, and I wouldn't want to buy a MB that wasn't compatable. Thanks for you're response.

More isn't always better. Games don't really take advantage of multicore computing. One core will be doing all the heavy-lifting whilst the others will just be there idling. If you were into applications that really take advantage of multicore, then there'd be a point in having more cores.

That is a great CPU. If you have the money, then go for it.

rwest is right also, that is a great price on the quad core.

Agreed, there are no games that utilize more than four cores. Applications have to be written to utilize multiple cores for multiple cores to have any effect on that application.

Multiple cores can help when you have multiple applications open.

Sound card important?

Hello everyone,I have ordered all my parts and awaiting there arrival. I had a question about sound cards and if there is any reason I should buy one. ( btw I came up well under my estimated budget on my build) Also I most likely won't be overclocking but still some chance that I will so should I get a non stock CPU heatsink/fan cooler. Thanks for reading.

The onboard sound seems to be pretty decent these days. Try it out and if you're pleased with it then you don't need a sound card.

The stock cooler is usually fine for a very mild OC. If you really get into OC-ing you will want something better. But since the stock cooler comes with the CPU you might as well use it for now until you decide to if you are going to OC.
