Pc build for a Product Designer
Hey,
I am looking into building a pc for work use. I am a product design student and will be using it heavily in Adobe programs and in CAD programs. I will be used for rendering so I know I need a good graphics card. As I have been looking into what to get for my build I am a bit overwhelmed with all there is to consider. I am looking at a rough budget of $1500, I am looking for a fast machine that can handle my work flow stated. If I could get some recommendations to look into it would be much appreciated because I am not sure where to start and devote my research. Thanks. |

Does that $1500 budget need to include peripherals (keyboard, mouse, monitor(s), etc.) and an operating system? Do you have any usable hard drives (hard drive prices are sky high right now)?

I hope that budget doesn't include the software.

Thanks for the build recommendation. I will probably end up going with it. I was looking at expanding the RAM to 16gb but I can't figure out how to find out how much ram the machine and handle and use. I was looking to just buy 2 of the CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model CML8GX3M2A1600C9

Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CML16GX3M4A1600C9B
Motherboard supports 32gb, but Windows 7 Home Premium only supports 16gb. 8gb modules are still very expensive. Last edited by glc; 12-10-2011 at 05:18 PM. |

I was about to purchase the parts when I noticed that the graphics card is currently out of stock at newegg. I was looking at other cards and was wondering if you guys had any words of caution against this card.

Both are excellent cards with the 570 being a littler better. The 570 has more processing cores and a better memory interface (process's faster).

I wouldn't hesitate to buy any EVGA -AR series card. It's a -KR, but this is also a great card for the money:

I got it my PC all put together. But I am unsure how to "use the SSD to cache it using Intel SRT" Can you help me with more specifics to setting that up?

Ran into an issue when installing all the drives and software. Only my 750GB that has my OS on it shows up. When I was installing Windows, it recognized all three hard drives. It gave me the option to choose which hard drive I wanted to install Windows on and I choose the 750GB. Now that is the only hard drive I can see on my computer. Anyone know why I can't see my other hard drives?

Yes, because you haven't partitioned nor formatted them yet. Go to the Disk Manager and do so.

Hey, I am having problems getting my pc to run my SSD as cache.
I did some research and found that I need set my SATA drivers to RAID before installing the OS. So I changed it in my bios to RAID, saved, and rebooted. Then when installing windows it nearly completes, but before it does it says "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware." What could the problem be? Are you doing this with the SSD *disconnected*? Is your hard drive SATA 3.0 or 6.0, and which SATA controller are you using?

You must leave the SSD and the second hard drive DISCONNECTED until Windows is installed and the SRT software is installed.
Are you using the SATA 6.0 or the SATA 3.0 controller? |

Your sata ports / controllers are defined in your motherboard manual.

Since I only have 2 SATA 6.0 ports do the 2 HDD hard drive use those and the SSD drive use a SATA 3.0 port? Or can a SATA 6.0 harddrive run on a 3.0 port, and I should use the SSD drive on a 6.0 port?
basicly: HDD (750gb) 6.0 port HDD (2 TB) 6.0 port SDD (40 GB) 3.0 port or... HDD (750gb) 6.0 port HDD (2 TB) 3.0 port SDD (40 GB) 6.0 port ? |

I unplugged the 2 TB hard drive and the SSD drive. But I ran into the same problem when installing windows.
The only thing I am changing in the bios is the SATA Mode to RAID. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...4/SATAMode.jpg That should show you what I am changing better than I can describe. Then I am installing windows, it finishes to were it say it is completing install, then right before it is done I get the message "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware." Is there something more i need to be doing in the bios? Because I am completely lost. I had only the 750gb SATA 6.0 harddrive in. Plugged into a 6.0 port. Windows will install in the default bios setup, but not when i change the SATA mode to RAID. From further research it appears I need to, "Create a RAID volume Follow these steps to create a RAID volume: When the Intel® RST option ROM status screen displays during POST, press Ctrl and I at the same time to enter the option ROM user interface...." But I do not get that screen, and pressing Ctrl+I at any point is not working. Last edited by Un24; 01-21-2012 at 07:03 PM. |

The Intel 3.0 SSD works best on a 3.0 port. The way I understand RST, you don't create a RAID volume, so I dunno why you are having these issues. The RST is set up after the fact with the RST software.
