Is this a good build?

A local store is offering this build for $960 not including an optic drive. Is this a good deal?

Phenom II x6 1055T
ASUS M4A78T MB
NVIDIA GTX560
ANTEC 300 W/ 600W PS
8GB PC3-10600 DDR3
WD 500GB SATA2 7200

WINDOWS 7 64 BIT

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to PC Mechanic!

I would price out the individual components on Newegg and Amazon and see what the price differences are for both vendors.

You do the homework.

I did most of the components on Newegg and they got good reviews. I couldn't find the exact ASUS motherboard though.

Like I said I read some reviews but in your opinion are these good components and what brand of RAM should I ask them to use since I noticed they don't list on in particular.

Plus I don't feel comfortable building it myself so there obviously would be some assembly labor costs in the above price.

Ask for Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, or A-Data ram, and an Antec (Earthwatts or HCG), Seasonic, or Corsair (TX, HX, or AX) power supply, and an EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte, or MSI video card.

If you own and know how to use a Phillips screwdriver and know how to read a manual, you can build it yourself.

You can build that for 850.00 or a less yourself and use dependable, quality parts . That is a good motherboard but discontinued. Not sure on the quality of the power supply. Not a real bad price but not knowing the brand of power supply and memory it is questionable. Old board makes me a little nervous (total price for build), however it is a reliable make and model.

People here are more than happy to help you with the parts list, assembly and any questions or problems that you might have. It is a great learning experience and makes you feel more comfortable around computers by knowing something about the hardware.

If you want to do it yourself then go ahead and create a parts list with a link to Newegg for each part. Nobody says you have to buy from Newegg, but they are one of the best vendors to purchase from. The link just makes it easier for others to examine the part that you are considering and to positively identify which part.

The experts here can design you a better computer for $960 than you can get from your local source. Be sure to mention which applications you will be using, which country you are in and how much you want to spend.
