New gaming build specific to BF3
I have been out of the loop regarding tech for a long long long long time, but what I do know is I want to play BF3 on higher settings nicely.
Not too bothered about SLI or multi VGC, and as ever I am on a budget. I have an OS W764HP, ATX case, mouse, keyboard, headphones and nothing much else I can use. I have been running my old PC through a 42 inch LG TV (LG42LD490) at 1080p HD res 19**x10** or so, I will stick with this I would like to go for Intel board, Nvidia VGC, Run windows 7 64bit of which I have a copy. Old kit will play BF3 but with issues which I think are global rather than just my rig. I am In the UK so no Newegg for me although references would be good. Thanks, Old rig: ATX antec case (server type) DFI lanparty Ultra D Skt 939 Opteron 185 @2.7 ghz 2GB G.Skill DDR 500 Enermax liberty ELT620W AWT EVGA 8800GT 512MB XFI Fatality Seagate 500gb 32mb cache (OS) 2 X WD Raptor 74GB (sotware raid0) running games DVDr Burner Etc USB Ideazon Z board Razer death adder 1800dpi Budget I guess I am going to have to have something so not sure, best bang for buck really. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hard drives are very expensive now - if you can reuse yours it would be a big plus for the budget. I don't think I'd bother with the Raptors, but I'd think about using the Seagate along with a small SSD to "cache" it using "Intel SRT". Your PSU is suitable for reuse, as would be the DVD burner if it's SATA. Budget as much as you can for the video card.

Thanks GLC, Looks good, I notice there is no sound card. Is this because the built in audio is as good these days?
Would you run OS+games off the SSD? With the 570 VGC it looks like £750 so within reach. Appreciate your time on this, |

Built in audio is fine. If you do not like it, add a card at a later date.
The SSD is for hard drive caching. It takes advantage of the Intel Smart Response Technology built into the Z68 chipset. It noticeably speeds up the write/read of your spin drive. Load your OS, apps, and data on the spin drive. |
