1st build

Hello!

I don't have a very strict budget, but if there's anything worth noting to save a few bucks for comparable performance or if something is overboard please let me know. I would like a quality build to last and be used for gaming, music, audio/video/graphic editing and design. Thank you for any input!

In almost all cases, you don't need sound cards these days. Your board already has some really good 8 channel sound.

You also will not need the NIC card. Your board has its own onboard LAN, two LAN ports.

Go with Corsair Vengeance low profile 1600, 1.5 volt RAM over the Ripjaws. I am assuming that with K series processor you plan on overclocking. If this is the case then you will need to add an aftermarket heat sink.

Thanks, David!
I've made the suggested updates with links and removed the NIC and sound card. I apologize - I should have been more specific with the optical drive; I'm looking for something with CD/DVD burning capabilities as well. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you

Change the motherboard to this.

ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
Newegg.com - ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
Note the onboard sound is excellent. ASUS Crystal Sound / DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC

I prefer Intel 510 series SSD for reliability
Newegg.com - Intel 510 Series (Elm Crest) SSDSC2MH120A2K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Liteon, Asus, or Sony DVD are what you want. Get the one that is cheapest. Newegg.com - LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - CD / DVD Burners

I think the arctic cleaner kit is a waste of money. Use rubbing alcohol to clean the surface and do not touch the surface. The Hyper 212+ comes with thermal compound so you don't need to order that as well.

Looks good. Newegg is the way to go in my opinion. If you have a MicroCenter near you (TwinCities / St. Loius Park) you may save a few bucks on the board and CPU but you have to go into store.
