Can't get P8P67 Deluxe to Post

Howdy,

Put my new rig together last night. After much trial and travail it still won't post. I'm hoping someone can help.

Here's what I've tried:

1.) With all 4 sticks of memory in the DRAM LED stayed lighted despite using the "memory ok" button.

2.) Switched to one stick in A2. DRAM light is out, but now I get a persistent "boot device" LED and A2 Q-code indicating "IDE detect".

I've tried:

Resetting CMOS by removing battery and unplugging for > 1 hour.

Booting with 1 SATA device at a time and moving them to different ATA locations.

Resetting CPU in socket. (Didn't pull it out all the way due to Arctic Silver).

Booting without Video card (get VGA and boot device LED's).

Resetting cables to power supply.

No joy.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Is everything out of the case?

Did you just hook up the power supply, one stick of ram, CPU, no hard drive, and the monitor to see if it would post into the BIOS?

PROBLEMS with a NEW BUILD? Try This!!

I'll give it a try. The P8P67 has no onboard video, though. Try it with the card or just try to get it to post/beep?

With no video card and/or no ram, it won't POST but it should give you multiple beeps.

Ok, now I feel like an ass. With board + cpu + 1 stick + video card it goes to BIOS with the monitor plugged in. Every other computer I've had beeps once when the board posts. I never dragged the monitor to the workbench to see if anything was happening. No beep, but it looks like I'll be able to get into BIOS.

Back together everything goes. Sigh

I think the punchline is that the MB wanted the keyboard. Once that was plugged in the boot device LED went out. Live and learn.

I guess the new UEFI bios is different in more ways than we realize?

Easy to prove. Unplug keyboard and reboot. I may even try that.

Yup. All is good now right? Sorry about the video card, I was rushing to get to the Lions game.

Up and running, thanks. The other thing I learned is that it takes a ridiculous amount of pressure to mount the RAM on this board. I think the one-sided clamp makes it more difficult, too. The DRAM LED was lighted the first time I tried all 4 sticks. It wasn't until I had installed/uninstalled a couple of times that the LED went out. It got a little easier to install each time. That might help someone who has the same issue.
