2nd Gaming PC Build need advice
I built my first pc back in 07. Several yrs and crashs later I just want to build a new one. I want to oc a bit but am a novice at this so the components I choose I want to be easy overclockers (software built in bios to automate it). I have a new family now and am getting married nxt yr so I will be saving about 400 a month and purchasing this in 3-4 months. I thought I should water cool my cpu because of the oc but not sure, any suggestions are welcome thanks.
Case- NZXT Phantom Black PSU- Corsair Enthusiast 850w Mobo- Asus Rampage Extreme iv I know your thinking overkill but it will clock my cpu to 4.3 without blinking and all I do is change a setting in the bios to do it. cpu- i7 2600K Hdd- OCZ Agility 3 60gb SSD I also have a raptor 150gb which i will install all my games on, this one will be just for system stuff Ram- CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB Vid card- Gonna use my old one to save money at first then get sli with Evga GTX 570's Mouse- RAT 7 gaming mouse Might get the 9 (wireless version) Everything I left out I have what do yall think? I was gonna order from digital storm but I had alot of fun building my first pc so I want to give it another shoot. Also Should I use that i7 or go amd, my only preference is which is the better real world performer. Total budget is 2k Last edited by hyg71886; 12-26-2011 at 11:30 PM. |

I hate to put a damper on your plans, but if you aren't going to be buying components for another few months, this is too early to ask our opinion on specific components. A quick look at your list says most of that is overkill and not cost effective - and the motherboard and processor are not compatible with each other.

About the two months ahead, I made a post on here about a build exactly one month ago, two items had already sold out when I had the money and went to order the parts on the 27th, if it had been more serious than a video card and case, I likely would have had to do an entirely new build.
I lost the case I wanted because I didn't have the money, the video card I will end up with is much better than I previously chose though. I suggest you wait until you have the money in hand entirely. |

It's your money, but after a certain point, it's not going to really make much difference.
i5-2500K with a good Z68 board, 8Gb RAM, Either a 120Gb SSD for OS or 60Gb or less if you plan to use Intel SRT caching. PSU - as much wattage as you need to power the card(s) of your choice. I game just as well on a single 5770 as I do on Crossfire 5770s, at least in MW3. (Over 250 highest K/D, 32 MVP games) The things that make a difference to me are decent monitor (24"), gaming mouse with dpi adjustment, good headset, and I use a Wolf King gaming keyboard. I'm about to put together a i5-2500K build so we'll see if there's any difference with my gaming performance, with just the Mobo/CPU change.
