Gaming build ~£900 ($1400) First time

Hi guys, I wanted to make sure these parts went well together before I bought anything. I'm buying everything in the UK so expect prices to be slightly different. Hope to buy within the next two weeks or so.

I'm a gamer and have all the peripherals already so don't worry about that. I'm hoping to play at 1920x1080 on almost highest settings (I think it may struggle with BF3 on ultra). Anyway, I'll be using it to play games like Skyrim and BF3 so I want it to be fairly heavy duty. Here's the list:

Case £63.50
Coolermaster HAF 912 Plus Case | Ebuyer.com

PSU £104.00
Corsair CMPSU-750HX Professional Series 750W Power Supply: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Motherboard £119.00
Asus P8P67 PRO REV 3.1 Motherboard (Socket 1155, ATX, DDR3, Quad USB 3.0/SATA 6Gb/s Support): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

CPU £167.00
Intel Sandybridge i5-2500K Unlocked Core i5 Quad-Core Processor (3.30GHz, 6MB Cache, Socket 1155): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

CPU cooler £25.00
Play.com - Buy Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler Heatsink online at Play.com and read reviews. Free delivery to UK and Europe!

GPU £220.00
Asus ATI Radeon 6950 HD 810MHz 2GB PCI-Express DVI (DirectCU II) (EAH6950 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5) - dabs.com

RAM £42.00
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz CL9 1.5V.. | Ebuyer.com

Optical drive £14.00
LiteOn iHAS124-19 24x DVD±RW DL & RAM SATA.. | Ebuyer.com

HDD £65.00
Samsung M7 640GB 2.5 inch SATA II 8MB Cache, 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive OEM - Sony Playstation PS3 Compatible: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

SSD £69.00
Intel 40GB 320 Series SSD 2.5" SATA-II Read.. | Ebuyer.com

I'll be overclocking the CPU and GPU soon after I put it together and run some stress tests. The SSD will only be used for windows 7 professional. Everything else will be on the HDD.

The motherboard is a point of contention because I am probably going to be buying another 6950 in a year or so. The new Z68 boards seem expensive without offering anything I think I really need. The P8P67 pro runs x8x8 which is why I've got that as opposed to cheaper P67 boards. From what I've seen crossfire 6950s work pretty well:
Charts, benchmarks 2011 Gaming Graphics Charts, Gamer Index

I would really appreciate any comments bad/good/ugly etc :P

Cheers

Get the low profile Vengeance ram - aftermarket CPU coolers have clearance issues with the heatsinks on the standard stuff.

If you are getting a 40gb SSD, you should be getting a Z68 so you can run it as a cache with Intel SRT - look at a P8Z68-V or P8Z68-V Pro, those run 8x8.

I also wouldn't touch that Samsung hard drive with a 10 foot pole, get a full size 3.5 inch WD or Hitachi drive.

Thank you for picking up on those glc, no idea why I had that 2.5inch drive in there. So replacements for those 3 parts here:

RAM
Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Low Profile Vengeance.. | Ebuyer.com

mobo
Asus P8Z68-V S1155 Intel Z68 DDR3 ATX (P8Z68-V) - dabs.com

HDD
Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATAII 7200RPM 16MB.. | Ebuyer.com

Those 3 look alright? Didn't see much advantage in going for the P8Z68-V Pro. Worth it for an extra £10?

The only significant difference is the Pro has 2 more SATA 6.0 ports.

Using that Intel 320 40gb SSD along with the hard drive in SRT will give you a nice boost in performance - not as much as a dedicated SSD, but you won't run out of space quickly on the SSD like you would with a dedicated SSD. I have a report that SRT will cut your bootup time in half over a standard hard drive. It's a good compromise, and you can always upgrade appropriately later.

I've done a quick bit of research with regards to SRT. In your previous post did you mean dedicating the entire 40GB SSD to SRT caching and having the OS installed on the HDD?

Or... have the SSD in two partitions, say ~10-12 GB for SRT and the rest for the OS. Would ~10GB be large enough to cache a few games and the most frequently used apps?

Cheers

Use the entire SSD for SRT. Even 40gb is a bit small to install an OS on.
