Upgrade for my PC
Hello,
I built my pc with the generous help of the forum goers here five years ago and I'd like to give it a little upgrade. My current specs are: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive (Perpendicular Recording Technology) ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400 Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor BX80557E6600 SAPPHIRE 100150SR Radeon X1900XTX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 CrossFire Ready Video Card CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply Had to switch out the original PSU I got with the current one listed about 3 years ago. I've used it mostly for gaming and then general use, but I do notice that with recent games i'm falling out of the minimum requirements. Was wondering what parts some of you might suggest upgrading and to what. I know the graphics card will need an update and the memory most likely. Thanks! |

For a gaming computer I think the only thing I would do is to increase the RAM to 4 gigs and get a faster graphics card. Any more than that and you have to start from scratch with a new mobo, CPU and RAM.
How much do you want to spend? Which OS do you have?

I'm running Win7 Home pre. I suppose I'm willing to spend around $300.

I'd get 2 more gigs of matching ram and a new video card. The video card would be usable in your next upgrade (motherboard, CPU, ram). I'd be looking at a video card in the Radeon 6950/GTX 560 Ti class.
