Intel SRT AFTER installing Windows?
I couldn't afford an SSD when I first built my PC so I figured I would just buy one later. I have a 500gb hard drive with Windows 7 on it and I would like to use the SSD for caching. I should be getting my SSD soon, do I have to re-install Windows or is there some kind of work-around?

You would only need to reinstall windows if you want to put your OS on the SSD which kind of defeats the purpose of SRT anyway. I think you only need to connect your SSD and have it recognized in the BIOS and then there should be a separate section for SRT.

SRT only works when the drives are in RAID format (not specifically RAID-0 etc.). In the BIOS you need to check your drive setting - AHCI/IDE/RAID. If it's RAID already then you'll be fine. I have never tried to change to RAID after OS installation so I couldn't tell you about that. I would suggest looking it up
![]() EDIT: looks like someone did it here: http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=450612 However I'd definitely recommend a fresh install. If not, make sure everything's backed up. Last edited by rich218; 01-08-2012 at 02:48 PM. |
