New Build Gaming and Picture Editing

I will be building a computer for Gaming plus doing post production and editing of pictures. Currently I am using Photoshop Elements. I am going to be switching to Lightroom and CS5. I am still trying to decide if I should get the I7-2600k or I5-2500k. How much does Lightroom and CS5 benefit from the I7 over the I5. I might do a small amount of video editing but not sure I will. Does cuda only help video editing?

I am going to start with this case.
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Advanced RC-932-KKN5-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0

Motherboard
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Processor
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel

Memory
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop

Graphics card
EVGA SuperClocked 012-P3-1573-KR GeForce GTX 570 HD w/Display-Port (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI

SSD Drive
Corsair Force Series GT CSSD-F120GBGT-BK 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I have a WD 1TB Caviar Black for all my data.

Windows 7 Professional
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit - OEM

CPU Cooler
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 Continuous Direct Contact 120mm Sleeve CPU Coole

I have two Power Supplies to choose from.

Antec TruePower New TP-650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.3 / EPS12V V2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC

or

Thermaltake Black Widow W0319RU 850W ATX 12V v2.3, EPS 12V v2.91 CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

The video card you have chosen is the best choice for all your uses.

Have you already BOUGHT a power supply?

The Thermaltake is already in my computer I built in 2007. I had an Antec that died outside of their warranty period. I bought the Thermaltake to replace it last January. Then I noticed that Neweggs website listed the warranty longer than Antec box did I contacted them and they replaced it with the TP-650 which I have as a spare power supply.

The software you will be using will benefit more from the i7 as the software will be able to utilize hyperthreading on the processor.

Any thoughts on the SSD? I know you guys recommend Intel for the reliability. I have a Corsair do you think the Kingston Hyper X is better in the performance area? Also between corsair and Kingston which is more reliable?

Hello Dredging up my old thread. I was planning on upgrading then decided to wait till ivy bridge came out. I am planning on ordering everything now. I have changed 3 things.

Motherboard

ASUS P8Z77-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

I decided to go with the intel SSD especially since the 520's came out. I plan on putting my OS, CS5 and maybe a couple of games on this. The 240gb is a good price so I figured I would grab that instead of the 120gb.

Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW240A3K5 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Finally the processor I waited for

ntel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics

Is there anything else I need to change?

You should be good to go. You may want to look at some of the new video cards that have come out recently.

I was going to stick with Nvidia because of the CUDA and CS5 any suggestions?

The 570 is still a great card for CS5, I don't personally think the 680 is worth the price jump for the amount of gain you will get.

Would there be any benefit to going to the 2560mb version? Looks like you lose the overclocking.

Thanks everyone for the helpful input. I got my build put together this weekend and its running awesome. I will have to say the Coolmaster HAF 932 and Hyper 212 Evo combo is seriously quiet. Plus it does an excellent job of cooling.
