Need some Help building a First Rig
I am currently planning on building a rig which is mainly for gaming but also for some high end work such as CAD and Photo shop. The specs i have chosen are as follows:
CM Storm Scout Coolermaster Silent Pro Coolermaster 700W Modular PSU Akasa 5.25" Akasa FC Trio fan control for 3 fans down to Zero RPM, Temp monitoring and a VFD Display with sleep mode Intel Core I7-3930K 3.20GHz Socket 2011 12MB Cache Phanteks PH-TC14PE Processor Cooler Gainward GTX 680 2GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 Intel X79 Socket 2011 7.1 Channel HD Audio ATX Motherboard G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 2133MHz RipjawsX Memory Kit I already have a 40 inch monitor and other minor parts like the optical drives and HDD's (120 gb SSD and a 2 TB ) What I would like to know if this is a good build and the main factor is if there will be any bottle necking in this system. Some of my friends have asked me to install a water cooling system and others said not to just use a after market CPU fan I really don't know which way to go. This would be my first build and would like any information. Last edited by zaraki505; 04-08-2012 at 06:31 PM. |

By the looks of the links, you are in the UK?
Please post your budget for the entire build in GBP. |

Bluntly, No. Not for a first time builder. The X79 is not your best choice and niether is the gskill ram. Also Coolermaster is not one of the reccomended brands for a PSU. I wouldn't go water coolling either if it's your first build. Stock cooling is fine if your not planning on overclocking, but the aftermarket fan cooler will help. And you dont need the fan controller unless you just want it. Plenty of MBs have enough fan connectors.
Get us that budget and someone will get you started in the right direction.

thank you guys for taking the time to look at my post. I am going to spend a max of £1700 GBP on this build.
I wont be overclocking this rig since I have no clue what so ever for that and wouldn't want to fry my mother board in doing so. Hence ill stay with a after market cpu fan for the time being. Looking forward to the new improvements |

After looking around and reading up on allot of stuff I found out that the CPU I am planning on getting has a quad band ram boost in speed so i changed my ram to
Corsair Dominator GT 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C9 2133MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit with DHX Pro Connector (CMT16GX3M4X2133C9) **SPECIAL** [CMT16GX3M4X2133C9] Also after considering rwest post i changed the mother board and power unit to know branded parts which are: Corsair Professional Series AX850 High Performance 850W Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply (CMPSU-850AXUK) [CMPSU-850AXUK] Asus Rampage IV GENE Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 MicroATX Motherboard [90-MIBHM0-G0EAY00Z] Do these parts really make a difference because I really want to have a low maintainable PC. I have always used laptops and now in transition to a PC from my old alienware m17x revision 2 model i wanted to keep the same fluid performance level without having a loss in power or speed. **Edit** I forgot to add can you guys recommend a good PC case that's easy to fit for a newbie like me. I have always like Zalman cases but for some reason the new zalman Z11 case is not in uk. Thanks for any advice. Last edited by zaraki505; 04-09-2012 at 10:48 AM. |

2133 speed ram is a waste unless you are seriously overclocking. Get a quad kit of Corsair Vengeance 1600, low profile version.
I like the Coolermaster HAF series cases. |

I dont know anything about Gainward. Ebuyer didn't have any 680 cards by any of the reccomended manufacturers. Maybe someone else can help here.
