New Build With a Budget... Need lots of help... very new at this
Hi Everyone,
I have never built a computer, I have a fairly average knowledge of the parts thats I need, and have done a lot of research on how its done, I have some IT friends that can help me if I get stuck but for the most part want to do it myself, I learn a lot easier that way. I would like to spend $600-$800. The budget does not include Monitor, Keyboard/Mouse, or any other external features. I won't be upset if it's more expensive. If you think there is a part out there that I need and it would be terrible not to include it. I'm willing to spend the extra money for it. I have a case that is about 5-6 years old that I can use, but would also like you to include a case because I don't know how much better they have got in the past few years. I want this computer basically for day to day operations (banking, internet surfing.) I want it to be able to play movies to my tv in decent video quality & sound quality. (blueray) I need it to use a program called softplan. click the link for specs Home Design Software by SoftPlan - What Type of Computer Does SoftPlan Require? I want it to run fast as well. lol! like everyon else. I am thinking of going with Intel just from what I've read (I'm not married to it lol!) and a seperate video card. I need a HDMI outlet so I can hook it up to my TV. I also need something to hook it up to my stereo for surround sound. (computer will be in a different room though not sure how easy this will be). I would also like wireless internet. also why would i need usb 3.0 i was told to make sure i have it. |

Gee, that's almost EXACTLY what I just built! You won't be disappointed.
Using Linksys routers, what wireless adapter would be recommended, glc? I was just fixin' to post and ask this in new thread. My apologies to the OP for piggybacking. Promise to not do it again!

I don't know if you will get any more ifnormation from this link.. this is the company Product Support Search - Pace

These days, I would only use AMD if I were on a very small budget.
What model is your 2Wire unit? Look on the bottom, it will have a label. I'm afraid that the system is going to have to be redone from scratch if you are in Canada - please put your location in your profile. All links are to Newegg US, pricing and availability are different in Canada. |

The old computer will sit between to Linksys WRT54G and the WRT310N which is an access point.
Another quickie, is the Cat 5 cable used for telephones usable for ethernet? How many conductors in each. Where I'm putting the old computer I have no cable, but my phone system is commercial style and there are telephone lines running to that desk which I might be able to eventually utilize. |

If it's true CAT 5, with 4 twisted pairs, it will work, as long as each end is terminated properly.

Don't forget to price match with Direct Canada! They're operated by the same people who own NCIX, but for some reason they have slightly lower prices sometimes. I saved over $100 on my last order by doing that.
You can also price match other stores of course.
