My set up (see sig) will take a quad core but when I switch the CPU it looks like I'll need to go single channel with new ram (I note you haven't checked for that.).

If your board supports the upgrade, new video card and new ram, and your psu agrees, then go for it.
This could get you a few years of solid performance and let you wait on Win8 for a year or two.

945 95w? That processor (if it even exists) doesn't even show on that compatibility list, much less as being compatible with that board.

In my opinion, any possible CPU upgrade that's compatible will not be worth it, unless you are running applications that can take advantage of more than 2 cores.

what do you mean "if it even exists" of course it does. Even I know that one and a jump from a dual core of 2.6 to a quad of 3.0 for bout a hundred bux is worth it when ya cant afford a whole new rig.I've already talked to xfx and the confirmed it will work as long as its the 95w model, the pdf is as old as my pc lol so its not updated with the latest cpu compatability and thats kinda why I'm here.

O.K. you currently have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ but I can not find any CPU support documentation for that board. From what little info there is, it appears the best you can add is a Phenom 9750. You can pick those up for 99.00 at Star Micro but I would not put a dime into it, especially if the money is funny.

Before you rag on me any harder, please note that I do not do AMD builds and don't have a CLUE about all their various types of processors. I was simply going by the link YOU provided. I tried finding a CPU support chart myself, but XFX, being the crappy company that they are, makes you register to even access the support section of their site - which I won't do.

Sorry, I can't properly advise you on a CPU upgrade when it's AMD. If you want advice on Intel, there I can help you.

Hey smackz,
glc was just trying to offer his help. It isn't his falt that AMD has such a confusing naming system.
but he is right what he says about the processor even existing, as it has been obsolite for a couple of years now.
If you can find one, more power to you, and I say go for it, but for about $50 more, you could probably get a new motherboard and processor that is a little more up to date.

Smackz, I'd suggest you read the forum rules. There are a LOT of people here who are willing to help, and be friendly about it. There are people here who are VERY knowledgeable about AMD processors, but I was simply trying to get the point across that I AM NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE.

Your initial rudeness to me is NOT appreciated. That's a VERY quick way to kill my friendliness.

Furthermore, there is limited, if any documentation for that motherboard. I am well versed on AMD and that board has me stumped. We would not hold back on helping you but XFX has made this troublesome.
