Hi Gang
I just put this together a few weeks ago, and everything was working ok, great as a matter off fact. Turned it on this morning and was going along reading -mails, etc and all of a sudden it froze up, I mean froze up like the reset would not do anything, pushing the power button would not do anything, etc. I had to flip the power switch on the back. So I let it set a little bit turned it back on and it got as far as the screen, I forget the name of it but it gives you the choice of F1 F2, plain black screen, and click delete to get into the bios, stuff like that, well clicking on the keyboard did nothing, I mean nothing. So I rebooted it several times and it would do the same thing go to that screen and freeze. It is a P6T V2 Asus board with 8g ram, 500 Seagate HD, etc. I know this board has problems that Asus is aware of with the having to reset the bios with time and date, every time you flip the power switch off or unplug it. Any ideas.??????? Thanx........Gunny

To rule out a crashed hard drive, disconnect both the power and data cable, and see if you can get it to boot from a bootable CD or DVD.

Hi GLC
Boy I really did not think I would be back with a problem, it was working so good. Any way I have tried a diff HD, same probem, changed cables, same problem. There is strange things going on I just found this. That board as I first stated if you unplug it or flip the PS switch you go no where before you redo the date and time in the bios. Ok so it came up to that screen the F1 F2 thing and the keyboard would no do anything, so bight idea I got a old PS2 keyboard plugged it in and it worked, I could get into the bios and reset the time and date. So the keyboard was dead I am assuming. I don't think the keyboard caused the freeze up but in order to shut it down when it did freeze up, I had to flip the PS switch, and when it came back on it gave me that screen and being the keyboard did not work I was stuck. Hope this all makes sense. Dam I wish Asus had a fix for this problem in case I ever have to flip the PS switch or unplug it. Thanx....Gunny |

Hi GLC
I hope that was not too confusing. :-( Some of these problems and fixes are that way. Or maybe it is just me. Any way it is working now. I could not sleep one night so I got up and Googled that problem with this MOBO, and I must have read for a couple of hours. They talked about this problem for a full 10 pages of posts, and it went from PS's to Video cards, that was causing this problem. And I really do not think they all agreed on any of it. Firmware updates was mentioned too, but I think when all was said and done, most of them still had the problem, after trying all the fixes. Some even sent their MOBO's into Asus, for them to check it. Most were told they could not duplicate the problem. My thing now is I have my original keyboard connected back up, and it is working just fine. I guess until the next time I have to unplug it or flip the switch. Why can't a big outfit like Asus fix a well known problem like this.????? Thanx....Gunny |

I have no idea - I won't touch X58 boards with a 10 foot pole!

Sorry about that, but I think I expressed my opinion on that in an earlier thread.
I honestly don't know what's needed to fix stuff like this with a X58. Rather than tear my hair out, I followed others' advice and avoided the situation to begin with. |

Hi GLC
Hey I have no problem when some one says it like it is. Maybe I just did not expect it coming from you, and since no one else is contributing to this post, kinda puts this in the no results column. More surprised at the no other posts that I am about what you said. There has to be a few out there that does not hate this MOBO. I can't afford tearing any of my hair out either on this, but I still see a need to fix it. Thanx.....Gunny |

I am not familiar with that board (I am an X58 Sabertooth guy) but I would bet a dollar that a BIOS update is in order to address your date, time issue. What BIOS level are you at now? I will check for you after I learn your BIOS level.
What is the difference between your original keyboard and the other one? |

Hi jdeb... Long time no talk to.
The one that don't work when this happens is a wireless and the one that does work is a PS2 connection. BIOS level.? Do you mean what version it is.? Thanx....Gunny |

If you're losing time/date when the power is off it sounds like a problem with the battery. Is the battery good? Is it installed correctly? (I've gotten one motherboard fresh from the factory with the battery upside down...) Is the Reset BIOS jumper in the correct position?

Hi tmathews
Ya as I stated before I have used a couple of diff battery's, and I checked them with a meter to find they were right on, and yes it is installed right. I doubled checked to make sure it was because it is standing up not laying flat like on most boards. I will check on the reset jumper. Thanx....Gunny |

I tried to get the Bios version but I cannot freeze the screen quick enough to read it. I looked through the settings in the bios and did not see it there.
Thanx....Gunny |

Not very good descriptions as usual. Maybe worth a phone call or two. I do see some keyboard issues being updated though. Personally, I would flash it to the latest. I assume I have the correct board in the link but please verify it.

They are vague and may include more fixes not listed. For example, Intel has readme txt files and they thoroughly describe the update. Their boards are not that great though. I have called Asus before on BIOS updates and was able to get a lot more info on the update than what was listed on their website. I have made this suggestion to them several times but they are pretty arrogant about it. I think at the end of the day, they do not want people haphazardly updating BIOS which is understandable.

Hi jdeb
Ok I got ya, and you are right there, very vague. They always state the danger involved in doing this. Is this overblown or what. I have never updated one but it looks pretty straight forward. I plan on doing it with a flash drive. Thanx....Gunny |

Updating an Asus bios is very easy with a flash drive and EZ Flash.

H GLC
I have seen that E Z flash when going through the BIOS, do you know how it is run.? Do you have to have the latest update on a flash drive before you run E Z flash.? Thanx....Gunny |

Download the bios update, if it's zipped unzip it, copy it to the flash drive. It is probably a .rom or .bin file.
With the computer OFF, plug the flash drive in. Start the computer and press Alt+F2 (or go into the bios and find EZ Flash). The flash drive should be the "A" drive. Self-explanatory, do NOT interrupt power while flashing. |

Hi GLC
Sorry you have to do this with a 10 ft pole, but thanx for all the info. A 2G should be a big enough flash.? Have you ever done a flash and it went sour.? Thanx...Gunny |

I've had exactly one flash go sour in 15 years, and that was on an Acer Aspire.

Hi Jdeb--ok great I will give it a go later today, and let everyone know how it went.
Hi GLC---Boy that is a good record, I hope I have that much success. Do you do this every so often, I mean the updating thing.? Is this something every one should do once in a while just to keep your board up to par.? Or don't fix what ain't broken.? Thanx....Gunny |

Hi GLC
I am sure if I had done as many as you have it would not be a big deal either. The very first one is a little bit of a is this going to work or not feeling. :-) I have not done it yet, it is a rom file. Thanx....Gunny |
