Server Hosting and/or Gaming PC
I need to find a cheap deck for something like 650/700 - 1,000.
I really wanna aim towards, CHEAP. Not like lousy hardware, but a decent bang. For? - Hosting a C# Game, using MySQL, hosting web services, with a good processor to do so. If I decide I wanna trash the PC I'm using now for the server I wanna be able to play games with it, ones that are be able to handle java hoarding apps, and BF3 in high... Aiming for Intel, nVidia/Radeons..etc. Last edited by glc; 01-18-2013 at 11:04 AM. Reason: Language |

I have Windows 7 64-bit install disk, I have a monitor I *COULD* use, and keyboard(s) / mouse(s).
Could use a new monitor, but as of now for this build...not needed. |

You can cut costs with an i5-3350P and a P8B75-V board.

I would do what glc said and bump the graphics up a bit, you can never have to much gpu horsepower with a gaming rig. What resolution do you intend on running bf3 at after you get a new monitor? That will determine how strong of a gpu you actually need, I have the gtx 660 and I can run bf3 on ultra at 1080p and get about 50fps.

Alright were looking at a $750 build... Good price, maybe doable. Although, I'm not looking for a killer graphics card, just an average to SLIGHTLY above average.. I'm hoping this evga or w.e. will pack that? Otherwise I'm open to suggestions..to make it better and slightly cheaper and/or slightly higher.

Hmm, I thought nVidia trademarked their name on it, either way..seems like a great card. Gonna keep it on the build. Last edited by Nucious; 01-22-2013 at 04:45 PM. |

Nvidia doesn't manufacture cards, just the chips. EVGA and others make the cards.

That card is still a very good card. I have it's older brother, the 6850. I'm glad to see they've filled the gap they left between the 6xxx and 7xxx card series. Anything stronger than that card (the 7850), and you'll be looking at a card that costs $300+.

Yeah, it's in my signature. HIS Radeon 6850. To be honest, I'm impressed with the quality of the video card. I'm not sure if HIS is still highly recommended around here, but in my opinion it is still very good. I'm not sure what you're looking to do in terms of gaming, but even my 6850 blows some games out of the water. I can play Skyrim, BF3, and others at max or near max settings. All that, without any overclocking.

Benchmark Results: Battlefield 3 : GeForce GTX 650 Ti Review: Nvidia's Last Graphics Card For 2012
the 7850 is faster than the 650ti, now to me its not $50 faster but it might be to you. Personally if I was looking in the $190 range I would go with this card. Newegg.com - ASUS GTX660-DC2O-2GD5 GeForce GTX 660 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card $199 after rebate, its about $4 more than the 7850 but it's quite a bit faster. BTW one more time what resolution monitor are you going to get? That is the most important question when purchasing a graphics card, right now I am just guessing your going to go 1080p. |

A GTX 680 is the most you need for a 1920 x 1080 monitor. If you are considering a 2560 x 1600 then a dual GPU processor would not be a waste if you are really into fast gaming and have the money. I know there are those in here that think that any 690 is a waste.

The way I look at the nvidia lineup at 1080p is this Any game on ultra 680 - 65fps + 670 - 60 fps+ 660ti - 50fps+ 660 - 45fps+ 560ti - 30fps+ 560 - 25fps+ To me anything under 40fps is unplayable on pc, now keep in mind this is just the guideline I use for people that like heavy first person shooters such and metro 2033, crysis2, and battlefield 3. The only game that this doesn't apply to is the original crysis that was horribly optimized and no single gpu card will max it out at 60+. |
