ok
Have both items listed with newegg. Will start buying soon, starting with case and hard drive, Successfully mated heat sink/fan on cpu with the thermal bond(thank you). And even found right pins to power the fan. On a roll. Of course had to borrow sisters magnifing glass and mag pen light to see what I was doing.

It will burn a copy of anything, CD, DVD, or HD (blu-ray) that you might need and play back anything .
Look on it as insurance. |

Get CML ram, not CMZ. The tall heatsinks on the CMZ are unnecessary and get in the way.

Wow!!!!
The durn thing runs. After figuring out where all the wiring went, turned that baby on,(suitable fire precautions taken, pets moved to other room) and she started right up. Connected monitor and slipped in the XP OS disc(that I didn't know I had) and there she was as slow as ever. Had to bring sister over to show hers that the old man still had a few nerons firing. Wanted her laptop(with a cracked screen) back that I have hooked up my monitor to. Told her she would have to wait until I had built my new computer. Noted the CML on the ram. For sale e-machine $1 plus shipping. lol

Pam, Have you read the reviews on the asus blu ray burner lately, seems people are have two problems, no rebate and crashes. Have you had a chance to look at the Pioneer BDR-208DBK15x or the ASUS BW-12i31 ST 12x?

No crashes and when ordered, last fall, the rebate wasn't a problem.
If that's changed, and it looks like it has, then it's time drop it from my list of parts. I'll check the others. |

3d
Hope to have this baby grow into a full scale 3D Movie watcher someday among other things. Are the motherboard and the gpu able to start me on this road? Know that the monitor on list won't do. Another question, is windows 8 that much better than windows 7? I ask because win 7 has media center included.

If you have 3D aspirations you will need the CyberPower 12 ultimate suite for software and yes the motherboard/CPU combination will work well for that.
Do you have any specific monitor in mind or is that something you'll want to do later? I ask because that and the suite will stress your budget. For 3D this drive : LG Electronics Blu-ray Disc Combo Internal SATA 12X Lightscribe with 3D Play Back, Model CH12LS28 Retail - Newegg.com The Win 7 media center does not playback blu-ray, you'd still have to buy software, so get Win 8 and save yourself some future problems. Take note that the Win 8 version I linked you to comes with a free copy of Power DVD 12.
That's a very good deal for you. |

lg player
I see no means on how to secure the lg 3d player to chasis. The large bays are only accessable from one side and there are no defined screw holes on the one side I can get to. Suggestions?

The rails are on the back of the cover plates.

And 64-bit will allow room to grow for the inevitable desire to increase RAM

After reading manual (this old man never reads instructions first or stops to ask for directions) the front of this case has a small tray that is not accessible (sic) from the front called a floppy device holder. What is a floppy device?

I would guess a 3.5" floppy disk or disk drive.

floppy device
It is big enough, but no opening to front, checked to be double sure, but there is a solid steel plate beneath the plastic outer cover. In fact it looks like a steel box thats about a little over two inches deep and three inches wide

The case has 2 of the smaller 3.5 external bays one of which would make a good card reader bay if you chose that route instead of a portable USB card reader(SD cards and the like.).
The plate behind it is removable. If you have no use for it then ignore it. |
