Budget Build Comp

Hello everyone. I have a build here I need a second set of eyes on. Just want to make sure evything will work. I need to keep this as cheap as possible as my friend i'm helping is on a tight budget. Thanks.

Case (I will be giving him a full tower RAIDEN case with 4 fans ATX Form Factor )

jdeb 03-31-2013 06:25 AM

The only red flags I see are quality motherboard and power supply. You can get high quality for just a little bit more.

For reliability and stability
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Newegg.com

I am not sure on Raidmax power supply's
Antec BP550 Plus 550W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply - Newegg.com

The CPU you selected is fine but for an extra 20.00, you could get current hardware
AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor FD6100WMGUSBX - Newegg.com

glc 03-31-2013 09:18 AM

You should also use a dual channel kit of ram, not a single module.

CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CML4GX3M2A1600C9B - Newegg.com

It doesn't hurt to go over, but all you need is a quality 400 watt PSU for a system with that video card. Raidmax is junk. To keep the cost down, this will do the job:

Antec VP-450 450W ATX 12V v2.3 Power Supply - Newegg.com

With a big full tower case, having a modular PSU really isn't that important.

kid4christ 04-02-2013 11:56 AM

Okay, thank you for the recommendations.

One question. Will a Radeon HD 4830 work for the time being with this set up? We decided to take the video card out of this current build and use this one. The 4830 is old card I am holding onto and I wanted to give it to him until he can get a decent one. Will there be any issues using this card with the newer PCI slots? Or will it just downgrade performance a little? The only games he wants to run right now is Team Fortress 2, minecraft and Combat arms. I know this card can handle those games with out any problems.

glc 04-02-2013 12:24 PM

That changes things just a bit. 450 watts is the recommended minimum for a 4830, so I'd go a bit higher. The BP550 recommended by jdeb would be a better bet than the VP450. A 4830 is very close to a 7750 in performance, but it's only a DX10 card if that makes a difference. The 7750 is DX11.

kid4christ 04-02-2013 04:19 PM

Okay....so to recap this is what I have...

Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Newegg.com

PSU Antec BP550 Plus ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply - Newegg.com

CPU AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor FD6100WMGUSBX - Newegg.com

RAM CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CML4GX3M2A1600C9B - Newegg.com

HDD WD WD Blue WD5000AAKX-FR 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive - Newegg.com

Burner LITE-ON Model iHAS124-04 DVD Burner - Bulk Black - Newegg.com

So this will all go together compatibility wise? Side note also....do these parts usually come with the screws you need? My case dosn't have any lol.

jdeb 04-02-2013 07:23 PM

looks good

glc 04-02-2013 08:36 PM

You will need the screws to attach the motherboard to the case, possibly a screw to attach the video card bracket to the case, and possibly screws to mount the drives in the drive bays. Power supplies usually (but not always) come with screws to attach them to the case. If you don't have the screws that came with the case, you will need some. Motherboards and drives don't come with screws.

kid4christ 04-03-2013 03:59 PM

One more thing here.

This build is great and I will go with one. One thing. My friend is reall tight on cash. He wants to buy a 1 4gig stick of ram instead of doing 2 2 gig sticks. Then maybe 2 weeks down the road buy another 4 gig stick to make it eight. So he will have to live with 1 4 gig stick for two weeks. He should be fine right?

glc 04-03-2013 04:27 PM

Yes, but he will have to buy an EXACT match.

Why can't you just wait 2 weeks to buy everything?

Zerk 04-07-2013 12:37 PM

I would question the use of a refurbished HDD with only a 90 day warranty.

glc 04-07-2013 12:38 PM

Oh, I missed that! Completely agree.

Zerk 04-07-2013 02:42 PM

This will save you $20 if you get the $10 rebate and maby allow you to get 8GB of memory.
XFX PSU made by Seasonic
XFX 550W PRO550W Core Edition Single Rail ATX 12V 44A 24PIN ATX Power Supply 80PLUS Bronze
Same CPU cheaper price. Sale ends 4/10
AMD Bulldozer FX-6100 Six Core Processor 3.3GHZ Socket AM3+ 95W Retail Box
$51.20 for the 8GB of memory with the promo code sale ends 4/8
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLS2KIT4G3D1609DS1S00 - Newegg.com
Good price on a HDD I would buy this before I bought the referbished one.
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX - Newegg.com

glc 04-07-2013 07:53 PM

I would not recommend Ballistix ram. Too variable and unstable.

It may be built by Seasonic, but I don't trust XFX as a company for customer service reasons. Antec is a quality company and the BP550 is built by FSP.

Zerk 04-08-2013 04:36 PM

Actually the BP550 plus is made by Delta not FSP.
5 companies make Antec PSU's Seasonic, Delta, FSP, Channel Well, and Enhance.

glc 04-08-2013 05:43 PM

When did they switch? Last I knew, it was FSP. Anyway, Delta is decent too. Channel Well and Enhance I'm not too keen on.

Zerk 04-08-2013 07:19 PM

That model has always been made by Delta the BP 350/500 are made by FSP. The companies that do not make their PSU's and are just rebrands are trickey like that. Channel Well makes the CX junk for Corsair not something I would buy or build with. The XFX I listed above is a very good PSU never had a bad one and I use the video cards as well, rebates are a little slow as with usally all rebates but never had a problem with the company. All of their PSU's are made by seasonic.
Here is something you might like to look at.

I'm with you there!

I'm going to copy those 2 links to the PSU sticky.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Still continuing to help my friend and he wants to save up more money. Is there a better motherboard i could recommend him for the 75 to 100 range?

jdeb 04-17-2013 10:02 AM

Here you go...

David M 04-17-2013 10:51 AM

What is the quality of Flextronics? I see that some of the Corsair AX series are made by them.

kid4christ 04-17-2013 06:02 PM

Thats not bad. Anything with PCI 3.0? Are there any intels aound that price range? We could start thinking about switching to an I3 and he can upgrade processor later. I know its asking alot.....

I have also noticed even the high end AMD motherboards only do PCI 2.0? Why is this?

Thanks again.

By the specks they look good, all jap capicators, 7 year warranty, digital link that connects to the MB, the low voltage ripple really looks good. I have one ordered for a customers build and can't wait to play with the software. It can tell you the coolent temp of the H100 CPU cooler I will see as that's in the build also. Not really sure whats that's for but would like to check it out. I see a 2 day stress test playing with this :)

EDIT keep in mind this is probably made to their specks so I really can not say on all of their PSU's quality.

What is this PC going to be used for (if gaming what games currently) what is the total budget and what is all needed? So far you have a case, 4830 video card, what else needs to be added to the price keyboard, mouse, speakers, operating system, monitor? If you have a operating system to use wich one and how many bit 32 or 64?

That's not how to buy memory you buy memory in a matched set as in 2 sticks in one package. You can buy a X brand stick and add the same exact model for more memory and usally be fine but they are a chance since it's a duel chanel board it will not play nice together.

David M 04-17-2013 07:23 PM

Or wait until he has enough money saved up to purchase a 2 x 4 gig kit. That would be most cost effective since your friend would not paying for shipping twice, if shipping is charged. Plus he gets a matched set as Zerk says.

In the bigger picture, it is best to wait until you have enough money put together to buy all the parts at once.

kid4christ 04-19-2013 11:46 AM

Agreed on the ram.

We switched the ram out with 2 4 gig sticks of coursair vengence. I also switched the motherboard out with a biostar one so he can use a core I3 processor for now and maybe later he can upgragde.

What are your recommendations on this motherboard?

BIOSTAR B75MU3+ Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com

I see also you guye were talking about some of the corasir PSU not being that great? I have this one picked out too...
