Fixing my desktop.

HI,

I have recently purchased CyberpowerPC Gamer Infinity GLC950 Desktop Computer - Core i7 i7-960 | Overstock.com, on Ebay. Unfortunately it arrived damaged. So I am trying to see if I can boot it. It says, no bootable device, press any key to reset._
I will try to connect wireless keyboard to press any button.

So is the problem in HDD?

I looked at my hdd and found that only sata cable was connected to it but power cable from PSU was hanging disconnected (plastic part of the connector broke). I managed to use another connector from PSU to HDD. Same result .

Please help me on this issue.

Take the side off and see if there are any drives installed and plugged in. That's the first place to begin.

Damaged how??? Was it packaged securely, etc? Get from reputable seller? I assume you checked SATA cable at motherboard and is plugged into slot. I hope you didn't get rooked.

blu-ray rom is plugged in now (sata and power), HDD is plugged in now (sata and power).

Now it gives me options to boot devices and there is only CD/DVD option to choose, there is no HDD option. Is that mean HDD is dead?

No, no. I didn't get rooked. I am communicating with the seller back and forth he is a nice guy, reasoning from the damage extent, I guess package has fallen out ofthe USPS truck . Seller insured the package before sending so now he's going thru paperwork.

Are you looking in Bios to see if hdd recognized? If it ain't I'd double check cord connections. Be nice if you had an extra drive laying around to test with. Maybe even try another port on the board.

I tried another port on the board, didn't help. In fact my wireless keyboard is not working on it. Wireless keyboard on the other hand works on my laptop.

Is the doo-dad for keyboard plugged into a usb port on new pc?

Doo-Dad means usb receiver? yes it's plugged in to the desktop that is not booting

Thanks For advice, but this was only one desktop that he was selling, so there's only refund.

Once he will get refund from insurance company, whereas I will get my refund back from him and there's 90% possibility that I will keep this damaged desktop for myself. That's why I am trying to figure out how I can fix it, it is pretty good desktop, I think,when it works .

So what do you think? Should I get an extra HDD to test or the fact that the wireless keyboard is not working (with it's doo-dad being plugged into pc's usb port) increases possibility of Mobo being damaged?

Let's take an inventory of the components by brand and model to see where you stand.

Personally? I wouldn't mess with an X58 rig at ALL. Too fussy and it's got a previous generation CPU.

Just to let you know going from a i7-920 to a i7-960 isn't much of an upgrade at all. If you get your money back for this purchase then let us know so we can spec you out a modern build with quality components. It should take someone that knows nothing about pc building just a few hours to build a rig, if you need to know where things go and how to put things in then watch this and don't be afraid to ask us questions.

One question tho, what is the big difference in real life gaming situation between i7-960 with it's mobo and modern build with quality components? are these components in this existing rig low quality. Could you please let me know which ones are no good and which ones are good quality comparison (does it really change performance of the entire rig?).

It's not that I chickened out. I am just really busy these days, I have 2 jobs and on top of that I am trying to start my business.
I really want to build my own and I know I will, even if I'll fix this one. I have to fix this one since I have it for free.

Going from the old i7 to a new i5 would be a small gain in fps probably in the 10 to 15 range. What I meant was if you already had the 920 why not just upgrade what you had instead of buying a more of the same.

I'd try a regular keyboard. And make sure the wireless is turned on. My Logitech got turned off somehow and I almost chunked it.

You need to look inside. Brands and models aren't in that link. You also don't know if the seller swapped any components before selling it.

Most important are the motherboard and power supply.

CPU fan: RoHS (Asetek).
Ram: 3x4Gb PC3-10600 DDR3 SPECTEK
HDD: Hitachi 2TB 7200 HTB-DS7SAD200

as you can see on the last picture, there are 2 wires (red & black are not connected to anywhere), not sure if that is from the damage.

I think that's it, let me know if I've missed something, this is new world for me. I am not really good at all this, but I like to mess with it

Not real clear but your first pic at least to my old-ass eyes, I can't see any RAM sticks. Power supply being on top I haven't seen in a long time, but maybe just that case - no issue for me. You do have water cooling for CPU, no issue as long as it's plugged into CPU fan connection. It doesn't seem like there are enough wires connecting PSU to CD and HDD, but pic isn't clear on this end. If there are, it's great cable management.
