I just gratefully stumbled on to this board, and need some advice.
I'm building my first, though I've been under the hood on my old machine and gotten plenty done. I've got an Athlon 700, and an Asus K7M mobo, with PC133 128MB RAM (off brand, but tested by the tech dept at my job, and it works)with a PCI video card from my older setup (ATI 8MB). I get the processor, memory and video card in, fire it up and nothing. No beeps, no display. The CPU fan and the power supply fan are running, and the LED on the case is lit. I've unseated and re-seated the CPU and memory. The video card works in the other box. And yet nary a beep. Anyone out there got an idea? I'm under the impression the mobo is jumperless, but is there something missing? Need help...please! |

Hi,
Double check all your connections....make sure the board is not touching part of the case...also make sure the processor is all the way down...you might have to push a little to get it in....but nothing will happen if it is not firmly seated....Hope this helps...and let us know what you come up with. |

I'm at the office right now, and will do as you say when I get home. If nothing else I'm learning, as long as the frustration doesn't get the best of me. Thanks. I'll let you know.

I'm setting up a computer right now... and had your symptoms. Fans spun, but no video. I also had only cpu, memory, video hooked up. I worked over the memory and finally it posted. If the memory chip is tight, the board can easily move some under the pressure to insert it. Try to support it from underneath at any extra tight points. (I use stacked business cards shoved underneath) Push on one side and then the other to see if there's any *rocking*.
999/1000 times with your symptoms, it's the cpu or memory not fully inserted. HTH |

Have you done the shake, rattle, and roll yet? I always do this after a new build or an overhaul cause that extra screw you dropped may show up. I litterally take the PC, put it over my head at any and all angles. Sometimes a silver screw pops out. Silver screws can kill even a Vampire. Some days this works and some days it doesn't. Good Luck Frustation is a substitute for a paycheck.

Well, I'm finally in front of my email, so I can thank you for the help.
It was a seating problem, and a bad memory problem. But now I'm up and running, and it sure does feel good to build the 1st one and have it run smoothly. Thanks again. |
