Question 4th gen iPod?

Does anybody know any details on the release date of the next gen iPods? Also any of the new features it will/may have? I've read that it may have a color screen, video out, and a radio tuner... anything I dont know? I am saving for a 40 GB but I want to know if I should wait for the next ones being that the 40 will go down in price, or the next gens may be way better. (u know... i dont wanna spend 500 bucks on a 40 now, if the new ones are comin out at 500 bucks for a 50 gig ) thanx

Unity - If i were you, I'd just get it now. The new ones will probably be expensive and not worth it.

Mystvearn - Check out the Palm Zire 72. I think it can do all of that. A bunch of my friends have it and they're very happy with it.

I voted "don't get and Ipod" because they are way too expensive. You can get a Creative Nomad Zen 60GB for less than the 40GB Ipod. The 30GB Zen is around $219. On top of that, the battery is easily replacable like a camcorder.

Wait till WWDC at the end of this month. They may intro the 4th gen. there. The only reason i say that is because the last ipod rev. was over 6-months ago (not including the mini). i think they'll want to make the new ones metal with the mini's controls to make the entire line similar. As for being "too expensive", i suppose that comes down to your means and wether you are willing to settle for a lesser player's user interface and lack of speed.

Yes it is personal preference and I think sacrifising the circle pad thing for a couple hundred dollars is well worth it. As for speed, I have used both and noticed no difference. BTW, I like the Zen's aluminum which is also a factor for me.

For $420 you can get one of those ARCHOS video players. They have a big color screen and play music. They're like 40gb, which can hold a lot of divx movies. I'd go with one of those any day.

hmm the ever-advancing pace of technology huh.. pain isn't it..
i've also been thinking of buying an iPod.. no other players can match it in my opinion.. and i wish they would, cuz i dont want to spend all that money for an iPod. they are in my opinion infinitely more stylish, andd the wheel is so good.. i mean imagine how many times you'd have to press an up/down button to get through your music collection.. are there any others which have some kind of scroll wheel? hm any other just seems like a low-quality substitute.. but in my head i know it will do the same basic function.

hmm i'm facing this same dilema now (didn't know there was a 4th gen coming out b4 reading this.. got any links w/ info?) part of me says i want one now. if i wait i'm going to lose out on all the use of the thing from now until the 4th gen comes out.
but then, i think, i'd have to know what the next one is going to offer.. if they seemed to advance it so much that i couldn't resist, and the price was ok, then i might have to go for that.. but if they didn't seem to be much better then i'd probably go with a 3rd gen (which would hopefullly be cheaper by then with news of its replacement ).. may have to get an mp3cd playerto tide me over..

if you do get one then i'd suggest you get a 'skin' to protect it and if you want to use USB you'd need an adapter (your fine if u have firewire though).. i'd suggest you get some different headphones aswell.. to avoid muggings aswell as i think the iPod headphones are pretty poor quality.

personally i dont see the great appeal in a hand-held video player.. other than for plane journeys (atlough they have movies usually anyway, albeit not your choice) and car journeys.. its not someting your going to use every day like a music player.

Creative now has a similar navigation system. See HERE. And I'd also call the Creative product anything but a low quality substitute. It's a more reasonably priced substitute.
