Were they dead from installation, or have they only recently dropped out

When you solder the LED's in, just snip off the wiring from the old ones, get some heatshring tubing to insulate the legs, cut a length and slip over the wire first. The GND connection to the motherboard goes to the longer led on the LED (cathode) and the + connection goes to the LED's shorter leg (anode). When you've got them soldered on, slip the heatshrink back down over the legs and heat it with the back edge of the soldering iron tip so it shrinks round the leg and the wire. Hope this is of some help

LED's usually last 100,000 hours, I believe, and running 24 hours a day that's still a lifespan of over 11 years. Why do you think yours are going to "die"? For more than one to be going that early, something is wrong.

Could'nt find a guide relating to PC LED replacement but the procedure is the same for replacing and LED, so this should cover it:

1. PC font panel LEDs are normally standard (around 2V 30mA) 3mm or 5mm, so one of these will do. check the link inTin Canary's reply. You will also need a length of heat shrink tubing, a soldering iron (18W to 25W will suffice) and some general purpose electronics solder (the thinner the better as you get neater results).

2. with the front panel removed, remove the LED(s) from the front panel and snip the wires off the old one.

3. Strip back around 10mm of insulation from the old wires. Slip a length of heatshrink tube over the wires before soldering them.

4. "Wet" then end of the soldering iron with solder and wipe the end of the iron on a damp sponge to clean the tip.

5. Solder the coloured wire (normally the + connection - check motherboard manual for pinouts) to the shorter LED leg (anode/shorter led). To solder the joint, just hold the iron on the joint and slowly apply the solder to the opposite side of the joint, when it flows round remove the solder and iron from the joint and allow to cool.

6. Same as 5, but solder the black/white wire (normally GND - check motherboard manual) to the longer lead of the LED (cathode).

7. Slide the heatshrink tubing down and use the back edge of the soldering iron to shrink the tube down over the LED leg an wire joint to insulate it.

Refit the LED to the panel and JOB DONE!

hope this is some help

Am I the only one who thinks that it might not be the leds at all, but rather a wiring problem, when the whole side of the case (3 leds I believe) goes out at once?

That does sound like a wiring fault, unless the LED's are wired in series then a failure of just one would prevent current flowing through all three.

Easy to check if theyre wired in series, there will be one wire from a leg of the first one going to a leg of the second one, the other leg of the second one goes to the leg of the third one, then a wires come from the first and 3rd led's back to the motherboard that would be in series.

they should, there are 2 connections: 1 for the whole right side and 1 for the whole left side.

If you open the right side panel (the one without the window) look at the bottom and there should be wires, you should look for a green/white wire connector and make sure its connected

ok i found it all you have to do is unscrew the motherboard side of the case and it should reveal the wire thats disconnected.

Unfortunately it won't work for fan LED's (I assume you mean replacing fan LED's) as the fan LED's work normally from 12V, a series resistor has to be fitted to limit the current/voltage otherwise from 12V they would just pop but you can buy 12V led's (integral resistor) which are slightly more expensive.

Otherwise if you want to use standard one's start a new thread Nooblark and i'll try to help you out with the calculations for the one's you want
