I recently built a computer. Here are the specs:
1.2 gig socket A tbird 256 megs Crucial PC133 CAS2 RAM 45 gig IBM HD Epox 8KTA3 motherboard SB Live Platinum sound card Panasonic DVD Plextor 12x10x32x CD-RW All went well and its running really great. I have an old (10 years probably) Panasonic KX-P4410 laser printer that still works well so no need to replace or dump. I installed the drivers with no problem. Whenever I try to print the print is nothing but gibberish and I get an error on the printer itself "RAM overflow U36." Supposedly this occurs when a printer has the default 512K of RAM Panasonic installs at the factory. I had added upon purchase a meg of RAM for a total of 1.5. So I did some research and found out that in this case I would need to change the print quality from 300 dpi to 150 dpi. I did that but the same results occurred. I'm not sure what other printer settings I need to change or disable in order to make it work. I've got a feeling that the system is sending the information so fast the printer can't handle it. Any thoughts? TIA jazzgirl |

You could try changing your LPT port to a standard port instead of EPP / ECP. Just a thought! What OS are you using?

I'm using WIN98SE. I will try your suggestion. I'll post with results!

I went to printer, properties, and I see where the different port definitions are but I'm not sure how to change them. What do I need to do? Funny thing is the printer works on my K6-2 450 with the same original settings flawlessly.

You neeed to change the printer port type in the system CMOS setup - integrated peripherals.
Change the spool settings in the printer properties - the 2 selections are EMF and RAW - try them both. |

Thanks all who made suggestions. I did get into the BIOS and change the Onboard Parallel Port type from ECP/EPP to Normal and that did the trick.
