New computer, old HD problems

Computer manufacturer : Compaq
Computer model : Presario
Operating system : XP Home SP1
Type of browser : IE 6.0
CPU (processor) type and speed : Intel Celeron 2.7GHz
Amount of memory installed (RAM) : 504MB
Hard drive size: 33.1 GB
Hard drive free space : 26.6 GB
Anti-virus program : Norton AntiVirus

This is my brand new computer recently bought, the reason for buying a new comp is because my master hard drive fried on my old computer, and i got a good deal on the new one. Anyways, i took my primary slave HD out of my old comp and i tried to put it in the new one, but on startup, Windows doesn't load and the place where it says "Primary Slave" has the word "None" after it.

Here are the stats, as much as i know by heart, from my old computer: It was a custom built computer, it had Windows 98, it had 128 MB of RAM, AMD Atholon preocessor. Also, in my new computer, the Hard Drive belt only had 2 ends to it, one that went into the motherboard and one that went into the master. So i took out my old belt from my old computer, connected the hard drives accordingly (keeping the old slave still a slave and the new master still a master). The only thing that seems out of place is that NEITHER of the drives have jumpers in them, i don't know if that helps or not. The HD (primary slave) im trying to install is a Western Digital and it has a 57GB capacity. And another thing, the only mods done to the new computer was the old belt being installed, and an extra 256mb of memory added. Everything else is stock.

1. Buy a new Ultra ATA ribbon cable unless your old cable is one of those.

2. Put it in, with the blue end on the motherboard, black end on the master, and gray connector in the middle to the slave.

3. You need to install a jumper on both drives, on the Cable Select pins.
