Replacing a CD-RW drive
I need to replace the CD-RW drive in my old pc. Is it difficult to do?
Are they standard in size? Can you tell I'm just a girl? |

What kind of computer? With exceptions, they are standard, and easy to replace.

Turn computer off at mains.
Take case sides off, or whole case if it is one part (put pc on a desk or table). Touch the Power supply unit (to discharge any static). Locate the back of the cd-rw. Pull out the long thin cable connector. Pull out the white power connector. There may be another cable that is used for sound, pull this one out if there is. Unscrew the screws from both side of the drive. Pull the drive out of the front of the pc. Look in the new cd-rw manual and find out about the jumper settings. Set the new drive to cable select using the plastic jumper. Now do the reverse of the steps earlier, i.e put the drive in, screw back in, cables into the back etc. When the case is back on fire it up and let us know if there are any problems. |

It would be better to set the jumper to the same position as the one you are removing.
If this is a proprietary computer, it may not have a standard front bezel, this is why I asked what this was. |

Can't find that model number. If your burner has a standard flat rectangular front bezel, you can replace it with no issues with a generic drive.
