80 wire ribbon cables???
What is the diffrence betwen the 80 wire ribbon cables and the 40 wire ones other then in the 80 wire cable their is a ground for every signal wire?

1. 80 uses cable select and is ata166
2. 40 is master slave and ata66 ,100 and 133 |

I would have to look that up, but I don't think the 80 would have any real advantage with the slower drives.
it mainally to reduce the errors caused from crosstalk at the higher speeds |

40 tops out at ATA33. 80 is required for ATA66 and higher. There is no ATA166.

I have it somewhere in the tips and tricks section... I dismantled a cable and it's not quite as simple as 40 data wires going straight thru and 40 ground wires... there is a bit more method to the madness.
