speed comparison
If i overclocked a m-xp2500 cpu to about 2.4-2.5, what speed would that be equal to compared with a p4 processor, as you can't compare them directly???
only a quick question! |

there is no real tell-tale way of finding which AMD MHz are equal to intel MHz. alot of factors come into play, mainly FSB speed. id say your average OCed AMD running 200 x 12.5 would be roughly equivalent to a 3.0C.

great setup, however, the asus 5900XT isnt a bad card....but a better one would be the XFX 5900XT, because it comes with faster 2.2ns ram opposed to the asus with 2.8ns. the XFX model can be flashed to a 5950 ultra. heres the card you want. its advertised to come clocked at 390/700, but it really comes clocked at 390/800, because of the 2.2ns memory. there are many reviews out there that also claim this, newegg just has it misprinted.

Do be aware that even though the XFX specs are good, it's made by PC Chips. This makes the reliability suspect.

glc are all XFX cards made by PCChips? That would mean this storebrought computer has both a ECS mobo and a gfx card made by PCChips, not a very good combination in my eyes. But I was only 10 when I got this computer so I didn't know any better.

PC chips may make a crappy motherboard, but the XFX 5900XT is a highly regarded piece of hardware, because it comes with faster memory than any of the other 5900XT models. as always, do a little research before you purchase.

Yep - seems like we're looking at modding the FX5900XT
. Kudos to Tin for showing us that - thought that the only modding that was worth knowing was the Radeon 9500-->Radeon 9700/ 9700 Pro trick - that is one nice trick, though. As for the RAM you have picked out, I haven't heard of that manufacturer many times before - I would personally just go to brands like Kingston (ValueRAM - look for good chips ) , Corsair, or Crucial.Hope that helps, kram

the a-data vitesta is excellent ram. it uses either hynix D43 chips (same stuff in my value ram) or micron -5b chips, which are standard chips used in PC4200-PC4400. its picky about voltages and what not, but 270FSB shouldnt be hard to get with the a-data.

THat a-data ram is one that tin canary recommended to me because it uses the hynix chips he likes, although i hadn't heard of it either.

XFX is a division of Pine Technologies, which is a division of PC Chips, as is ECS. Highly regarded or not, it's still PC Chips. They may use the hotrod ram, but there is still assembly/component quality and reliability to be concerned about.

I agree... I personally don't think jumping on what is considered to be a hot rod card is a good idea when it is manufactured by a sub par company.
