What have I got....ATA 66/100/133??

I read that if you have a hard drive over 10 gig, then you would have a ATA 66/100 drive....possibly.
I have 2 drives, a 20 gig and a 40 gig drive but how do I know what type they are? I have just looked at the cable connecting them, and it isn't the 80wire/40pin connector.

It should be written on it. Anyway, you can look at the model number and do an internet search. The specs are online.

You mean, like having e.g. an ATA 66 and ATA 100 on the same cable ?

No. A good IDE controller can handle it. A bad IDE controller will use the lowest of the two (in this case ATA66) for both. But you will always be able to use both devices.

Just make sure that you use the 80 ribbon cable for drives that are ATA66 and above, or they'll be limited to ATA33.
ATA33 will also work on ATA66 (and above) cables.
