Round cables function the same as ribbon cables. You should be able to replace them without a problem.

Don't even count the pins. Just buy them by description. IDE cables 40 wire or 80 wire both use 40 pins. Floppy is just that, a floppy cable.

Looks better, more flexible allowing easier rerouting to promote better air flow thru the case.

Their all so a lot easier to handle! When you start trying to move those old ribbon cables around they are forever getting in the way.

Get different colored cables. It helps in identifying them when you're all frustrated and hazy!

Another way i made my own rounded cables was took some black electric tape and rolled the ide cable put the tape on it a voila! rounded ide cables. Its cheap and easy as long as your not to worried bout looks.

rounded cables aren't 100% 'more flexible'.. you can fold a ribon cable right back on itself with no problem.. cant with rounded.. but they can move easily in all directions unlike ribbon cables... same applies with airflow.. if a ribbon is face on with the airflow then it ruins it, but if it is side-on then air can go by just as easily, if not easier than rounded cables.
might work better with making your own rounded cables to cut inbetween the wires.. and then twist it round.. round ones look much nicer and less 'old beige 90s PC' like though. |

There is that new teflon tape that works perfectly for that kind of thing. It only sticks to itself and it "melts" together to make it look like it's a solid cover.

I did the same thing Dragon. Just used some electricians tape, and now my case is much easier to work in.

You can also use cable wrap for the same purpose.
